Eric Wood (baseball)
Eric Elliot Wood (born November 22, 1992) is a Canadian professional baseball third baseman who is currently a free agent. He previously played for the Chinatrust Brothers of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL). Career Wood attended Pickering High School in Ajax, Ontario, and Blinn College, in Brenham, Texas. The Oakland Athletics selected Wood in the 37th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft, but he did not sign, and returned to Blinn for a second season. Pittsburgh Pirates The Pittsburgh Pirates selected Wood in the sixth round, with the 196th overall selection, of the 2012 Major League Baseball draft, and he signed. After signing, he made his professional debut that same season with the GCL Pirates. After batting .287/.371/.467 with four home runs and 24 RBIs, he was promoted to the State College Spikes at the end of the season. In six games for the Spikes, he batted .200. Altoona Curve
The Altoona Curve are a Minor League Baseball team based in Altoona, Pennsylvania, named after nearby Horseshoe Curve (but also alluding to the curveball, a type of pitch). The team plays in the Eastern League and is the Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Spring training is the preseason in Major League Baseball (MLB), a series of practices and exhibition games preceding the start of the regular season. The Bradenton Marauders are a Minor League Baseball team of the Florida State League and the Single-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. They are located in Bradenton, Florida, and play their home games at LECOM Park, which also serves as the Pirates' spring training facility. The State College Spikes are a collegiate summer baseball team of the MLB Draft League. They are located in State College, Pennsylvania, and play their home games at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on the campus of Pennsylvania State University.
