Eric Wild (conductor)
Eric Lees Wild (11 February 191029 April 1989) was a Canadian conducting, conductor, trumpeter, arranger, and composer. He was the youngest child of Isaac Ashton Wild (18711963) and Sarah Ann Wild () (18741971) who emigrated from Lancashire, England in 1901. Life and career Born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, Wild studied conducting and arranging at the University of Michigan where he earned a Bachelor of Music in 1932. From 193336 he worked as an arranger for the Canadian Radio Broadcasting Commission in Toronto where he frequently collaborated with conductor Geoffrey Waddington. He toured to London as a member of Billy Bissett's Canadian Band in 193638. During that time, he also served as principal trumpeter and arranger for the BBC Symphony Orchestra 193639, and appeared with his own band on BBC Television. ''Hymn Sing'' was a Canadian television series taped in Winnipeg, Manitoba, for CBC Television. The program featured hymns, spirituals and inspirational music sung by a sixteen member choir. The series was broadcast nationally on Sunday afternoons from October 3, 1965 to May 1995. The show's musical directors were Eric Wild (from 1965 to 1978) and Winnifred Sim (1978–1995). Wayne and Shuster were a Canadian double act, comedy duo formed by Johnny Wayne and Frank Shuster. They were active professionally from the early 1940s until the late 1980s, first as a live act, then on radio, then as part of ''The Army Show'' that entertained troops in Europe during World War II, and then on both Canadian and American television. ''Meet the Navy'' was a musical revue produced by the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II. Directed by Hollywood producer Louis Silver and Broadway choreographer Larry Ceballos, the production premiered in a private performance for servicemen on 2 September 1943 at Toronto's Victoria Theatre. The first performance open to the public was given on the following 4 September. The production toured Canada in 1943-1944, entertaining approximately a half-million Canadians. It then toured to 11 cities in England, and to cities in Wales and Ireland in 1944-1945; beginning in Glasgow on 23 October 1944 and ending at the Hippodrome, London on 7 April 1945. The May Fair Hotel is a luxury hotel on Stratton Street in Mayfair, London, near the site of Devonshire House in Piccadilly. It opened in 1927 with King George V and Queen Mary in attendance.
