Eric Wild
Eric Wild (6 November 1914 – 10 August 1991) was Bishop of Reading from 1972 to 1982. Educated at Manchester Grammar School and Keble College, Oxford, he was ordained in 1938. His first post was as a Curate at ''St Anne, Stanley, Liverpool''. A bishop is an ordained clergy member who is entrusted with a position of authority and oversight in a religious institution. Graham Foley
Ronald Graham Gregory Foley (13 June 1923 – 30 July 2017) was an Anglican clergyman who was Bishop of Reading from 1982 to 1989 and the first area bishop under Oxford diocese's 1984 area scheme. Foley was educated at Wakefield Grammar, King Edward VI Aston and King's College London. Ordained in 1951, he began his career with a curacy at South Shore, Blackpool after which he was Vicar of ''St Luke, Blackburn''. In 1960, he became ''Director of Education'' for the Diocese of Durham followed by a decade at Leeds Parish Church and his final appointment (before his elevation to the episcopate) was as a chaplain to Elizabeth II. The Venerable William Raymond Birt (25 August 1911 – 11 March 2002) was the Archdeacon of Berkshire from 1973 until 1978. Birt was educated at Christ's Hospital. ''Who Was Who 1897–2007''. When peace returned he was the editor of Winchester Publications and then Country Life Books. In 1956 he entered Ely Theological College to prepare for ordination. He was a curate at Caversham until 1959 after which he was Vicar of St George, Newbury, Berkshire. He was Rector of West Woodhay from 1971 to 1978; and Priest in charge of Hamstead Marshall until 1981. Eric Henry Knell (1 April 1903 – January 1987) was the Bishop of Reading from 1954 until 1972. Knell was educated at Trinity College, Oxford and ordained in 1929. Beginning his ministry with a curacy at ''St Barnabas, Southfields'' he was successively: Domestic Chaplain to the Bishop of Lincoln; Priest in charge of the ''Trinity College, Oxford, Mission'' in Stratford; Vicar of ''Emmanuel, Forest Gate'', then ''Christ Church, Reading''; and finally, before his appointment to the episcopate, Archdeacon of Berkshire.
