Eric Shepherd
Eric John Shepherd (19 June 1894 – 30 August 1967) was an Australian politician. He was the Labor member for Victoria in the South Australian House of Assembly from 1924 to 1933. From 1930 to 1933 he was Speaker of the House. The Australian Labor Party (South Australian Branch), commonly known as South Australian Labor, is the South Australian Branch of the Australian Labor Party, originally formed in 1891 as the United Labor Party of South Australia. It is one of two major parties in the bicameral Parliament of South Australia, the other being the Liberal Party of Australia (SA Division). Since the 1970 election, marking the beginning of democratic proportional representation (one vote, one value) and ending decades of pro-rural electoral malapportionment known as the Playmander, Labor have won 11 of the 15 elections. Robert Nicholls
Sir Robert Dove Nicholls (27 June 1889 – 18 January 1970) was an Australian politician who represented the South Australian House of Assembly seats of Stanley from 1915 to 1938 and Young from 1938 to 1956 for the Liberal and Country League and party predecessors. He was one of the two members for Stanley for the entire time it was a two-member seat, and the member for Young for its entire existence. He served a record period as Speaker of the South Australian House of Assembly from 1933 to 1956. George Laffer
George Richards Laffer (14 September 1866 – 7 December 1933) was an Australian politician. He was member of the South Australian House of Assembly from 1913 until 1933, representing the electorate of Alexandra for the Liberal Union, and its successors the Liberal Federation and Liberal and Country League. He was a minister in the Barwell government, and was Speaker of the South Australian House of Assembly from 1927 until 1930. Laffer was born at Coromandel Valley into a fruit-growing family, his father having emigrated from Cornwall in 1840. He continued in the family business, and was actively involved in agricultural organisations, serving as a founder of the South Australian Fruitgrowers' Association, life member of the Agricultural Bureau, and as chairman of the Advisory Board of Agriculture. Electoral District Of Victoria
Victoria was an electorate in the South Australian House of Assembly from 1857 until 1902 and from 1915 to 1993. In 1902 the district was merged with Albert to create Victoria and Albert, but was separated again in 1915, electing candidates of both major parties at various times. However, after 1956, it was held by the Liberal and Country League and its successor, the Liberal Party, usually without serious difficulty. It was abolished in 1993 and replaced by the safe Liberal seat of MacKillop. In 1860, the electorate had booths at Mosquito Plains, Mount Gambier, Penola and Robe. In 1865, it added Port MacDonnell, Bordertown, Kingston, South Australia and Wellington, and Naracoorte in 1868. In 1875, Bordertown, Kingston, Naracoorte, Robe and Wellington were transferred to the new electorate of Albert, and the new Victoria consisted of only Millicent, Mount Gambier, Penola, Port MacDonnell and Tarpeena.
