Eric Nicol
Eric Patrick Nicol (December 28, 1919 – February 2, 2011) was a Canadian writer, best known as a longtime humour columnist for the Vancouver, British Columbia newspaper ''The Province''. He also published over 40 books, both original works and compilations of his humour columns, and won the Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour three times. , accessed 14 July 2006. Early life Nicol was born on December 28, 1919, in Kingston, Ontario. In 1921 his family relocated to British Columbia. Nicol attended Lord Byng Secondary School and the University of British Columbia, where he studied French. In 1941, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the university. Following military service in the Second World War, Nicol returned to the University of British Columbia and earned a Master of Arts degree. The Province
''The Province'' is a daily newspaper published in tabloid format in British Columbia by Pacific Newspaper Group, a division of Postmedia Network, alongside the ''Vancouver Sun'' broadsheet newspaper. Roy Peterson
Roy Eric Peterson, OC (14 September 1936 – 30 September 2013) was a Canadian editorial cartoonist who drew for ''The Vancouver Sun'' from 1962 to 2009. Biography Peterson was born in Winnipeg and studied in Vancouver at the Kitsilano Secondary School and the Vancouver School of Art.Ladurantaye, Steve (10 October 2013).Editorial cartoonist Roy Peterson fought his battles with ink. Peter Whalley
Peter Whalley (February 21, 1921 – September 18, 2007) was a Canadian caricaturist, cartoonist, illustrator and sculptor. Whalley was born in Brockville, Ontario, went to King's Collegiate School in Windsor, Nova Scotia until 1937, and attended the Nova Scotia College of Art. After serving with the Canadian Merchant Marine during the Second World War, he later established himself in Montreal as a prominent humorist, beginning in the 1940s with the ''Montreal Standard''. He would become well known in the 1960s and 1970s doing covers for ''Maclean's'', '' Weekend'' and the ''Montrealer'' magazines. He used a distinctive stripped-down style to send up the cultural and political life of Canada. As an illustrator, he collaborated on works with Eric Nicol and John Robert Colombo, among others. James Simpkins
James Nathaniel Simpkins (November 26, 1910 – February 1, 2004) was a Winnipeg-born cartoonist and artist. He was one of the original artists at the National Film Board of Canada where he worked for many years before launching a successful freelancing career. His cartoon character Jasper the Bear was famous throughout Canada from 1948 to 1972 and remains as the mascot of Jasper National Park. Youth James Simpkins' father, Arthur, was proofreader for a Winnipeg newspaper and his mother, Mary, looked after the family which included James and his two older brothers.
