Eric John Eagles Swayne
Sir Eric John Eagles Swayne (14 May 1863 – 9 September 1929) was a British Army officer and colonial administrator. He served in British Somaliland, where he was appointed Commissioner, and as Governor of British Honduras, now Belize. Early years Swayne was born on 14 May 1863. His parents were George Carless Swayne, a classical scholar, curate and essayist, and Margaret Sarah Eagles, a poet. He was educated abroad and at St Edward's School, Oxford, before attending the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, as a Gentleman Cadet for a year. In 1882 he joined the Welsh Regiment, and later transferred to the Indian Staff Corps. Swayne served in the Burma Campaign (1885–1887), the African Campaign (1898), and in British Somaliland. Gentleman Cadet
Officer Cadet is a rank held by military cadets during their training to become commissioned officers. In the United Kingdom, the rank is also used by members of University Royal Naval Units, University Officer Training Corps and University Air Squadron; however, these are not trainee officers with many not choosing a career in the armed forces. The term officer trainee is used interchangeably in some countries. Australia The Australian Defence Force follows the same usage as the British military system, using the rank of officer cadet (for the Australian Army (OCDT) and the Royal Australian Air Force (OFFCDT)), for personnel undergoing initial officer training. Docmo (town)
Docmo or Damot is a town in Werder Zone of the Somali Region in Ethiopia. The exact district or woreda of Docmo is ''Bookh'' also called ''Boh''. The locality is often incorrectly transliterated in various ways, including ''Damot'' by Europeans, or as ''Domo'' or ''Domco'' by the Somalis. Docmo is adjacent to the nearby locality of Las Suban, which is slightly north. It is located a few miles southwest of the border of Dharkeyn Genyo. Dervish Movement (Somali)
The Dervish Movement ( so, Dhaqdhaqaaqa Daraawiish) was a popular movement between 1899 and 1920, which was led by the Salihiyya Sufi Muslim poet and militant leader Mohammed Abdullah Hassan, also known as Sayyid Mohamed, who called for independence from the British and Italian colonies and the defeat of Ethiopian forces. Samala
Samala is located on the eastern outskirts of the town of Guumays in Sool, Somalia. It was the site of the first skirmish between Daraawiish and British forces, when on 30 May 1901 Eric Swayne's men attacked the Mahamud Garad tribe, one of the three major subclans of Dhulbahante alongside Farah Garad and Bah Nugaal. It was also the site of the first British-Darwiish battle on 2 June. Las Anod
Las Anod ( so, Laascaanood; ar, لاسعانود) is the administrative capital of the Sool region of Somaliland. Territorial dispute The city is disputed by Puntland and Somaliland. The former bases its claim due to the kinship ties between the Dhulbahante clan and the dominant clan in Puntland, the Majeerteen, whilst the latter's claim is grounded on the border of the former British Somaliland Protectorate. The city was the proclaimed capital of Khatumo State throughout its existence until its dissolvement in 2017. Somaliland forces captured the city in the Battle of Las Anod in 2007, ousting Puntland forces, and has maintained full control of the city in all aspects since. Until now Somaliland governs Las Anod with little legitimacy or popularity, while regular unknown assassinations have deteriorated the security situation.
