William Eric Evans (27 February 1894 – 21 June 1955) was a Welsh rugby player and the secretary of the Welsh Rugby Union from 1948–1955.Owen (1956), Obituary p. 77 Born in Neath in 1894, Evans left Wales to study at St Catharine's College, Cambridge. He returned to Neath during his vacations where he played for the Neath Rugby Club.Smith (1980), pg243. The outbreak of the First World War prevented Evans completing his university education and he was posted at Gallipoli. After the end of hostilities he returned to Cambridge and graduated in 1922. He returned to Wales and became English master and rugby coach of Cardiff High School. Eric Evans, (1 February 1921 – 12 January 1991) was the captain of the England rugby union team from 1956 to 1958. Early life Evans was born on Edge Lane in Droylsden and attended Audenshaw Grammar School. He first played for Old Aldwinians RUFC in the late 1930s and during the war joined Sale RUFC. After the war he qualified as a sports master at the then Loughborough College, later joining Openshaw Technical College in Manchester. England career Evans was awarded his first England cap in 1948, becoming best known as a hooker. Eric grew up in the New York City suburb of Tenafly, New Jersey and graduated from Tenafly High School in 1993. Eric Herbert Evans (31 January 1902 – 25 December 1977) was the Archdeacon of Warrington from 1959 to 1970. Life Evans was educated at Liverpool Institute and Bishop Wilson Theological College, Isle of Man. He was ordained in 1930. After curacies in Liverpool and Southport, he was Chaplain at the Liverpool branch of the Mission to Seamen. He was vicar of Crossens, and then, during World War II, a Chaplain in the Royal Navy Reserve.
