Eric Donaldson
Eric Donaldson (born 11 June 1947 in Bog Walk, Jamaica) is a Jamaican reggae singer-songwriter. He originated in Saint Catherine, Jamaica. Bog Walk
Bog Walk is a town in the parish of Saint Catherine, Jamaica Jamaica (; ) is an island country situated in the Caribbean Sea. Spanning in area, it is the third-largest island of the Greater Antilles and the Caribbean (after Cuba and Hispaniola). Jamaica lies about south of Cuba, and west of Hispa .... In 1898 work started on a hydroelectric power plant on the Rio Cobre near Bog Walk. The plant (1,500 H.P.) was completed the next year and used to power Kingston's tramway system (until then the cars were hauled by pairs of mules). In a June 1904 accident, 33 workers died while cleaning the huge water pipe feeding the power station. The plant, one of the earliest in the Western Hemisphere, was closed in August 1966. ''Labour of Love'' is the fourth studio album by British reggae band UB40, and their first album of cover versions. Released in the UK on 12 September 1983, the album is best known for containing the song " Red Red Wine", a worldwide number-one single, but it also includes three further UK top 20 hits, "Please Don't Make Me Cry", " Many Rivers to Cross" and "Cherry Oh Baby". The album reached number one in the UK, New Zealand and the Netherlands and the top five in Canada, but only reached number 39 in the US on its original release, before re-entering the ''Billboard'' 200 in 1988 and peaking at number 14 as a result of "Red Red Wine"'s delayed success in the US. Creole Records was a UK record label that found most of its success in the disco and reggae genres in the mid-1970s to early 1980s. Bruce White and Tony Cousins, who used the collective pseudonym Bruce Anthony, originally set up Commercial Entertainments in 1965 as a booking and management agency. The name ''Trojan'' comes from the Croydon-built Trojan truck that was used as Duke Reid's sound system in Jamaica. West Indies Records Limited (WIRL) was a recording studio in Kingston, Jamaica established by future Prime Minister Edward Seaga in 1958. Seaga recruited and recorded many artists such as Higgs and Wilson, and Byron Lee and the Dragonaires. As Seaga pursued his political career he sold it to Byron Lee in 1964 who renamed it Dynamic Sounds. Dynamic became one of the best-equipped studios in the Caribbean, attracting both local and international recording artists including Eric Clapton, Paul Simon and The Rolling Stones. History The West Indies Records Limited studio was established by Edward Seaga in 1958. Seaga recruited local artists from Vere John's talent show. WIRL recorded artists such as Higgs and Wilson, and Byron Lee and the Dragonaires. Byron Lee and the Dragonaires recorded their debut single "Dumplin's" in 1959 at WIRL.
