Miguel Sandoval (composer)
Miguel Angel Sandoval Cabrera ( Guazacapán, 3 November 1902–New York City, 24 August 1953), was a Guatemalan-born American pianist, conductor and composer. He spoke Spanish, English, French, and Italian. His musical works contributed greatly to both countries, and he is viewed as a musical ambassador of Guatemala. Early life Miguel Sandoval was born in the town of Guazacapán, Guatemala (in the department of Santa Rosa) on November 3, 1902. Fray Angel Cabrera, who was a priest and his mother's uncle, supervised Sandoval's primary education. Sandoval's musical resources were limited in the small town where he grew up. He had access to a home piano, which he began playing when he was age 10, the church harmonium, and two phonographs owned by wealthy members of the community. As a young boy, he was fascinated by the military bands and marimba orchestras who played on national holidays and feast days. Los Brincos
Los Brincos (The Jumps) were one of the most successful Spanish rock bands of the 1960s, and were sometimes called the “Spanish Beatles”. The group was formed in 1964. The members were Fernando Arbex (drums), Manuel González (bass), Juan Pardo (guitar) and Antonio ‘Junior’ Morales (guitar). All four sang, and vocal harmonies were an important part of their sound. Early hits included "Flamenco" (1964), "Sola" (1965), "Tú me dijiste adiós" (‘You told me goodbye’ - 1965, B-side "Eres Tú". ). "Mejor" (1966) and "Un sorbito de champán" (‘A sip of champagne’ - 1966). After two years of success, Juan and Junior left the group to form a duo. Los Brincos recruited new members and continued to have hits. "Lola" (no relation to The Kinks song) was number one in the summer of 1967. "What I've Been Looking For" is a song from the Disney Channel Original Movie ''High School Musical'' (2006). The song was written and produced by Andy Dodd and Adam Watts, and it was included on the film soundtrack of the same name. Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel sing it in a fast tempo. A reprise version, titled "What I've Been Looking For (Reprise)" was also recorded, but in a slow tempo. It is credited to be performed by Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens, although Efron vocals were mixed with those of Drew Seeley. "What I've Been Looking For" received positive reviews by music critics, being compared to Broadway musical performances. It peaked at number 35 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart and at number 34 on the ''Billboard'' Pop 100. Alex Cuba
Alexis Puentes (born 1974), better known by his stage name Alex Cuba, is a Cuban-Canadian singer-songwriter who sings in Spanish and English. He has won two Juno Awards for World Music Album of the Year: in 2006 for ''Humo de Tabaco'', and in 2008 for his second album, '' Agua del Pozo''. In 2010 he won the Latin Grammy for Best New Artist. His 2015 album, ''Healer'', earned him a Latin Grammy Award for Best Singer-Songwriter Album and a Grammy Award nomination for Best Latin Pop Album. His 2021 album '' Mendó'' won the 2022 Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album.
