Erenköy, Çanakkale
Erenköy is a belde (town) in the central (Çanakkale) district of Çanakkale Province, Turkey. In ancient times, the area was known as Ofrinio; later, it was known as Renkioi, which was later changed to Erenköy. The town is located in the İntepe sub-district, and at one point was again renamed İntepe itself, but the name was changed back to Erenköy in 2010. Geography Although very close to the Sea of Marmara coast, Erenköy is situated in the western slopes of mountains. It is south of Çanakkale and about north east of ancient Troy. The population of Erenköy was 1,554 as of 2013. History Renkioi Only away from the ancient city of Ofrinio, and from the sea, Renkioi translates from the Turkish language as ''village of ruins''.
