Erasmus Montanus
''Erasmus Montanus'' is a satirical play about academic snobbery set in rural Denmark. Written by Ludvig Holberg in 1722, the script was first published in 1731 and performed in 1747. Today, it is among Holberg's most frequently performed works. The play centers on its eponymous protagonist who returns to his rural village after studying in Copenhagen to find his new worldview causes conflicts in his everyday life. History The script was written in 1722 and 1723, but was not published until 1731 in the 5th volume of ''Den Danske Skue-Plads'', a collection of plays by Holberg. The play itself then did not premier until 1747. It is likely that Holberg delayed its release to avoid backlash because of the play's critical nature. Anders De Wahl
Anders de Wahl, (9 March 1869 – 9 March 1956) was a Swedish actor. Biography He was the son of the music director Oscar de Wahl (1832–1873) and opera singer Anna Lundström de Wahl (1844–1889). de Wahl was a student at the Royal Dramatic Theater in 1889–91, employed by the August Lindberg Theater Company 1891–92, at the Albert Ranft Theater Company 1892–1907 and at the Royal Dramatic Theatre 1907–19. He was mostly an actor of the stage but appeared in several roles in films between 1920 and 1946. Christian August Lorentzen
Christian August Lorentzen (10 August 1749 – 8 May 1828) was a Danish painter. Early life and education Christian August Lorentzen was born in Sønderborg, Denmark. He was the son of Hans Peter Lorentzen and Maria Christina Hansdatter. His father was a watchmaker. He arrived in Copenhagen around 1771 where he frequented the Royal Academy of Fine Arts but it is unclear whether he received formal training.Thomas Kappel. Wilhelm Marstrand
Nicolai Wilhelm Marstrand (24 December 1810 – 25 March 1873), painter and illustrator, was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, to Nicolai Jacob Marstrand, instrument maker and inventor, and Petra Othilia Smith. Marstrand is one of the most renowned artists belonging to the Golden Age of Danish Painting. Early development and academy training Marstrand studied at Copenhagen's Metropolitan School (''Metropolitanskolen''), but had little interest in books, and left around 16 years of age. Vilhelm Rosenstand
Vilhelm Jacob Rosenstand (31 July 1838 – 11 March 1915) was a Danish painter and illustrator. His best known work is a mural decorating the banqueting hall in the University of Copenhagen. Biography Born in Copenhagen, Rosenstand attended the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1858 and took private lessons from his teacher Wilhelm Marstrand. He also studied at Léon Bonnat's school in Paris (1881–82). He first exhibited at Charlottenborg in 1861 with ''Genrebillede fra Vendsyssel'' before serving as a lieutenant in the Second Schleswig War in 1864. Lorenz Frølich (25 October 182025 October 1908) was a Danish painter, illustrator, graphic artist and etcher. Early life and education Frølich was born into a wealthy bourgeouis family in Copenhagen. The son of Johan Jacob Frølich (1777-1858) and Pouline Wilhelmine Tutein (1789-1881). His father owned a successful trading firm in partnership with his brother. His mother was the daughter of Friederich Tutein, another wealthy whole-seller and the Prussian consul in Copenhagen. Frølich's father and uncle owned the building at Store Kongensgade 81. He lived with his parents in the apartment on the first floor. The uncle lived with his wife in the ground-floor apartment. The family belonged to the city's German reformed congregation.
