Equestrian At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Individual Eventing
The individual eventing event at the 2020 Summer Olympics is scheduled to take place from 30 July to 2 August 2021 at the Baji Koen and Sea Forest Cross-Country Course. Like all other equestrian events, the eventing competition is open-gender, with both male and female athletes competing in the same division. 65 riders from 29 nations are expected to compete. Background This will be the 25th appearance of the event, which has been held at every Summer Olympics since it was introduced in 1912. The two-time reigning Olympic champion is Michael Jung of Germany; Germany has won the last three events (Hinrich Romeike in 2008 before Jung in 2012 and 2016). The reigning (2018) World Champion is Rosalind Canter of Great Britain. Jung has been named to the German team. Jesse Campbell (born 29 August 1989) is a New Zealand eventing rider. Born in Waikato, Campbell moved to the United Kingdom in 2010. Fouaad Mirza (born 6 March 1992) is an Indian equestrian who won silver medals in both individual eventing and team eventing at the 2018 Asian Games. He became the first Indian since 1982 to win a medal at an individual equestrian event at the Asian Games. Felix Vogg (born 19 June 1990) is a Swiss Olympic eventing rider. He competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Laura Collett (born 31 August 1989) is a British equestrian who competes in eventing. Early life and career Collett won the supreme pony title at Horse of the Year Show in 2003 when she was 13. Tim Price (born 3 April 1979) is a New Zealand equestrian, competing in eventing. He is married to Jonelle Price (née Richards), also a New Zealand eventing rider. Alex Hua Tian (; born 25 October 1989) is an equestrian sportsman who competes in eventing for China. Early life Hua Tian was born in London to a Chinese father and a British mother. He has a brother, called Jamie Hua Ming. The family lived in Beijing, before moving to Hong Kong. Hua started riding aged four. His family moved to Wiltshire when he was 11, where Hua attended Chafyn Grove School followed by Eton College. Career Hua was the only Chinese event rider competing internationally between 2006 and 2016 and the first Chinese to be registered with International Federation for Equestrian Sports.
