Equestrian At The 2020 Summer Olympics
The equestrian events at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo featured three disciplines for both individual and team competitions. Originally scheduled for 25 July – 8 August 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the games had been postponed with the equestrian events set for 24 July – 7 August 2021. Qualification The 200 quota places for equestrian were divided between the three disciplines (75 for jumping, 65 for eventing, and 60 for dressage). Teams in each discipline consisted of three horse and rider pairs; any NOC that qualified a team (20 teams for jumping, 15 each for eventing and dressage) also received 3 entries in the individual competition for that discipline. NOCs that did not qualify teams could earn one individual place in dressage and jumping, and up to two individual places in eventing, for a total of 15 entries in jumping and dressage and 20 for eventing. Charlotte Dujardin
Charlotte Susan Jane Dujardin (born 13 July 1985) is a British dressage rider, equestrian and writer. A multiple World and Olympic champion, Dujardin has been described as the dominant dressage rider of her era. She held the complete set of available individual elite dressage titles at one point: the individual Olympic freestyle, World freestyle and Grand Prix Special, World Cup individual dressage and European freestyle, and Grand Prix Special titles. Equestrian At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Team Jumping
The team show jumping event at the 2020 Summer Olympics took place on 6–7 August 2021 at the Baji Koen. Like all other equestrian events, the jumping competition was open-gender, with both male and female athletes competing in the same division. 60 riders (20 teams of 3) from 20 nations competed. The event was won by team Sweden, which included Peder Fredricson, the silver medalist in the individual event. The United states were second, and Belgium third. In the final, after two jumpers from every team completed, all eight team were still in the competition, France was leading with two penalties, and Sweden, the United States, and Belgium were all tied for the second with four penalties each. Laura Collett
Laura Collett (born 31 August 1989) is a British equestrian who competes in eventing. Early life and career Collett won the supreme pony title at Horse of the Year Show in 2003 when she was 13. She won nine medals during her youth career, including three individual golds, in the juniors in 2006 on Fernhill Sox, in the juniors in 2007 on Rayef, and the young riders in 2009 again on Rayef. Career Laura has been selected for three European Eventing Championships as an individual. Thomas Bruce McEwen (born 10 May 1991) is a British equestrian who competes in eventing. Tom was on the European young rider eventing team in 2010 and 2011. He won team gold in 2010 riding Major Sweep and then won another team gold in 2011 aboard Private Rudolph. He was a member of the gold medal-winning pony European eventing team in 2007 with his ride Dick Taytoe. He competed at the 2018 World Equestrian Games upon Toledo de Kerser, finishing 12th individually and helping Team GBR win the team Gold. Carl Hester
Carl Hester (born 29 June 1967 in Cambridgeshire, England) is a British dressage rider competing at Olympic level. As of 8 August 2012 the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI) rank him 12th in the world riding Uthopia. In 2012, Hester formed part of the Great Britain Dressage team that won gold at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Early life and career Hester was raised by his mother and stepfather. Charlotte Fry (born 11 February 1996) is an Olympic, European Championships and World Championships medal-winning British dressage rider. Personal story A daughter of Laura Fry, who competed at the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, Charlotte Fry started riding at a young age. Aged 14, she started training with Olympic Champion Carl Hester, having weekly lessons from the age of 16. Steffen Peters (born September 18, 1964) is a German-born equestrian who competes for the United States in dressage. He has participated in five Olympic Games, winning a team bronze medal on two occasions (in 1996 and 2016) and a team silver medal once (2020).
