Equestrian At The 2016 Summer Paralympics
Equestrian at the 2016 Summer Paralympics consists of 11 dressage events, ten for individual riders across five classes, and a single mixed team, mixed category event. The competitions were held in the Olympic Equestrian Centre in Rio, in September 2016. Classification Riders are given a classification depending on the type and extent of their disability. The classification system allowed riders to compete against others with a similar level of function. Athletes are classified according to their functional ability when mounted across four grades and five categories (Ia and Ib, II, III and IV). The grading determines the complexity of the movements riders perform with their horses during their tests, ensuring that the tests are judged on the skill of the rider, regardless of their impairment. Riders may use permitted assistive devices such as dressage whips, connecting rein bars looped reins, and the like. Riders who have visual impairments are permitted to use 'callers' to ...

Olympic Equestrian Centre
The Markopoulo Olympic Equestrian Centre hosted the equestrian events at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. The venue is located at Markópoulo on the outskirts of the Athens suburbs. It was completed in December 2003 and officially opened on August 12, 2004, shortly before the beginning of the competition. The capacity of the venue is 10,000 for the Jumping Event, 8,100 seats for the Dressage and 15,000 seats for the Cross-Country Event. In June 2007, Markopoulo Equestrian Centre held the three super special stages of the 54th Acropolis Rally. Steffen Zeibig (born 11 June 1977 in Dresden) is a disabled equestrian from Germany. He has been on three silver medal winning teams and won a bronze at the 2016 Summer Paralympics. Elke Philipp (born 4 February, 1964) is a German Paralympic equestrian. Philipp has had cerebellar ataxia since 1984 when she suffered from a swelling of the brain due to Viral meningitis.  This resulted in her staying in hospital for 18 months, the paralysis of the left side of her brain and having to have a permanent tracheotomy. Sophie Wells (born 5 May 1990) is a British para-equestrian who won three medals at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, and 2 Golds and 1 Silver at the 2016 Rio Paralympics, and most recently Team Gold & Individual Silver at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. Personal life Wells was born on 5 May 1990 in Lincoln, England. She was born with amniotic band syndrome and as a result she has no feeling or little movement in her feet and has lost numerous fingers. Because of her disability she competes in the Grade V Paralympic classification, the classification for riders with the lowest level of physical disability.
