Sydney International Equestrian Centre
The Sydney International Equestrian Centre (SIEC for short) is the facility which was used to host equestrian events during the 2000 Summer Olympics and 2000 Summer Paralympics. The centre is located 45 kilometres from Sydney's business district and the harbour at Saxony Road, Horsley Park. Construction began in 1997, was finished in 1999 and it successfully hosted Olympic and Paralympic equestrian events in 2000. She won five swimming medals at the 1988 Summer Paralympics, and won equestrian medals at the 2000 and 2004 Summer Paralympics in the mixed team dressage event. Personal life Vermuelen is from Varik, Netherlands, and now lives in Ermelo, Netherlands. She was born with only one hand. Career Vermeulen won two silver medals and three bronze medals in L6 classification swimming events at the 1988 Summer Paralympics. She came second in the 100m breaststroke L6, 100m backstroke L6 and 400m freestyle L6 events, and third in the 100m freestyle L6 and 200m individual medley L6 races. Anne Dunham (equestrian)
Anne Patricia Dunham OBE (born 24 September 1948) is a British Para-equestrian who has competed in the Paralympic Games. Early life and disability Whilst at school Dunham worked at a local stable in her spare time and, by the age of 16, she was running a yard of 80 horses at weekends. She has said that she "always wanted to compete" but whilst she was able to ride the horses in the stables their owners competed with them. Dunham was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 27 and has used a wheelchair since the age of 30. At the age of forty, when her husband sold his business, she bought a horse and began to compete. Paralympic career Dunham first competed at the Paralympics competing on Doodlebug in dressage events at the 1996 Atlanta Games where she won a bronze medal in the individual mixed Kur trot grade II, and gold in the open team event. Marita Hird
Marita Hird (born 25 February 1971) is a Paralympic equestrian competitor from Australia. She won a bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Games in the Mixed Dressage – Freestyle grade III event. Personal Hird was born in Kew, Victoria. She was a jockey until 1993 when she fell from her horse during a race. Hird broke her neck in three places and was advised that she was an incomplete quadriplegic. However, after nine months Hird learned to walk again and began riding horses as a form of therapy. Sporting career After being encouraged to compete in dressage, Hird won bronze at the World Championships in Aarhus Denmark. She went on to win bronze in the Mixed Dressage - Freestyle grade III event at the 2000 Paralympics in Sydney. Gert Bolmer (born April 25, 1983, in Almelo, Netherlands) is a professional horse rider competing in dressage. He is grade II disabled. Career Apart from numerous participations in national as well as international contests, he is best known for his participation in the equestrianism, Equestrian events of recent Paralympic Games: *2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney, Australia *2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, Greece.
