Equate Scotland
Equate Scotland is an organisation established to promote and encourage the advancement of women in science, engineering, technology and the built environment. It is based at Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland. Equate began in 2006 as the Scottish Resource Centre for Women in Science Engineering and Technology and was the delivery agent in Scotland for the former UK Resource Centre for Women in Science Engineering and Technology (UKRC). When the UKRC's contract with the UK Government expired in 2012, the Scottish Government agreed to fund the Scottish organisation. In 2014, the Scottish Resource Centre was re-branded to Equate Scotland, to "increase awareness of their expertise in gender equality and diversity in these sectors. Alex Salmond
Alexander Elliot Anderson Salmond (; born 31 December 1954) is a Scottish politician and economist who served as First Minister of Scotland from 2007 to 2014. A prominent figure on the Scottish nationalist movement, he has served as leader of the Alba Party since 2021. Talat Yaqoob is a Scottish campaigner, writer and commentator focused on women's equality, race equality and intersectional analysis of policy. Early life and education She was educated at Heriot-Watt University and earned her master's degree at the University of Edinburgh. Career and activism She is an independent consultant and commentator. She launched Pass the Mic in October 2019, the first and only directory of women of colour experts in Scotland. She was the director of Equate Scotland from 2016 to 2020, working on women's equality across the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) sectors. Big Lottery Fund
The National Lottery Community Fund, legally named the Big Lottery Fund, is a non-departmental public body responsible for distributing funds raised by the National Lottery for "good causes". Since 2004 it has awarded over £9 billion to more than 130,000 projects in the UK. The Community Fund aims to support projects which help communities and people it considers most in need. Over 80 per cent of its funds go to voluntary and community organisations, it also makes grants to statutory bodies, local authorities and social enterprises.
