Epocheclipse
''Epocheclipse'' is a 1999 compilation set by Hawkwind covering their entire career. It was released in two formats, a triple CD box set ''30 Year Anthology'' and a single disc ''The Ultimate Best of''. The band's biggest hit single from 1972, "Silver Machine", was re-mixed by The KLF's Jimmy Cauty, with additional bass and guitars by Guy Pratt (Pink Floyd), under the name ''Infected By The Scourge of the Earth''. The mixes were released as promos by EMI as a white-label 12" and CD (catalogue DECLIPSE1999), the 12" containing "12" Mix" and "New Mix", the CD containing "Radio Mix", "12" Mix" and the "Original version". The "12" Mix" and "Radio Mix" were included on ''30 Year Anthology'' and ''The Ultimate Best of'' respectively. Hawkwind
Hawkwind are an English rock band known as one of the earliest space rock groups. Since their formation in November 1969, Hawkwind have gone through many incarnations and have incorporated many different styles into their music, including hard rock, progressive rock and psychedelic rock. They are also regarded as an influential proto-punk band. Their lyrics favour urban and science fiction themes. Many musicians, dancers and writers have worked with the band since their inception. Notable musicians who have performed in Hawkwind include Lemmy, Ginger Baker, Robert Calvert, Nik Turner and Huw Lloyd-Langton. However, the band are most closely associated with their founder, singer, songwriter and guitarist Dave Brock, who is the only remaining original member. "Silver Machine" is a 1972 song by the UK rock group Hawkwind. It was originally released as a single on 9 June 1972, reaching number three on the UK singles chart. The single was re-issued in 1976, again in 1978 reaching number 34 on the UK singles charts, and once again in 1983 reaching number 67 on the UK singles charts. The original mix has been re-released on the remasters version of ''In Search of Space''. The single "Silver Machine" was recorded live at a Greasy Truckers benefit gig at The Roundhouse, London on 13 February 1972 and this version was released on the various artists compilation album '' Glastonbury Fayre'' and the 2007 box set of ''Greasy Truckers Party''. Overdubs were applied and mixing took place at Morgan Studios with Douglas Smith and Dave Robinson overseeing the process. Dave Brock took production credits using an alias of Dr Technical. Michael Moorcock
Michael John Moorcock (born 18 December 1939) is an English writer, best-known for science fiction and fantasy, who has published a number of well-received literary novels as well as comic thrillers, graphic novels and non-fiction. He has worked as an editor and is also a successful musician. He is best known for his novels about the character Elric of Melniboné, a seminal influence on the field of fantasy since the 1960s and '70s. As editor of the British science fiction magazine ''New Worlds'', from May 1964 until March 1971 and then again from 1976 to 1996, Moorcock fostered the development of the science fiction "New Wave" in the UK and indirectly in the United States, leading to the advent of cyberpunk. His publication of ''Bug Jack Barron'' (1969) by Norman Spinrad as a serial novel was notorious; in Parliament, some British MPs condemned the Arts Council of Great Britain for funding the magazine. 25 Years On
''25 Years On'' is the eighth studio album by the English rock band Hawkwind, released in 1978. The band released it under the name "Hawklords" for legal reasons, as there was a dispute over ownership of the name "Hawkwind" at the time. It reached No. 48 on the UK album charts. It was originally titled ''25 Years On'' and the first 25000 were pressed as this until the band decided to simply call it ''Hawklords''. Subsequent re-releases have reverted to the name ''25 Years On'' and the band also now use this name on their website. Background and recording Hawkwind had self-imploded on a USA tour earlier in the year leaving only Robert Calvert, Dave Brock and Simon King to embark on this project. Spirit Of The Age
''Spirit of the Age'' is a 1977 song by the UK rock group Hawkwind. It was originally recorded and issued on the album ''Quark, Strangeness and Charm''. The lyrics of the song are composed of two of Robert Calvert's science fiction poems, the first verse being "The Starfarer's Despatch", which he had recited at shows whilst being the "resident poet" in the band in 1971, and the second being "The Clone's Poem". Both of these poems were published amongst a collection of his poetry issued as ''Centigrade 232'', published by Quasar in 1978. Throughout the song is a rhythmic electronic pulse. This repeated sound is the Morse Code for SOS (dot-dot-dot, dash-dash-dash, dot-dot-dot). The song was a popular addition to the band's live set and even remained after Calvert's departure from the band in 1979. ''Quark, Strangeness and Charm'' is the seventh studio album by the English space rock group Hawkwind, released in 1977. It spent six weeks on the UK albums chart peaking at number 30. This is Hawkwind's seventh studio album, hence "The Hawkwind Part 7" title on the inner sleeve. It is the band's first album without co-founding member Nik Turner, and drummer Alan Powell had also departed. In addition, Adrian "Ade" Shaw from Magic Muscle replaced Paul Rudolph during the recording session. The music on this album is more pop-oriented than with their previous offerings. The cover is Hawkwind's only design by Hipgnosis, featuring internal photographs of Battersea Power Station processed by Richard Manning and graphics by Geoff Halpin. Quark, Strangeness And Charm (single)
"Quark, Strangeness and Charm" is a 1977 song by the UK rock group Hawkwind, being the title track from the ''Quark, Strangeness and Charm'' album. The title references quarks which are sub-atomic particles; "strangeness" and "charm" are playful terms used by physicists to refer to how many strange and charm quarks are within a particle. Paul Rudolph (musician)
Paul Fraser Rudolph (born June 14, 1947 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada) is a Canadian guitarist, bassist, singer, and cyclist. He made his mark in the UK underground music scene, and then as a session musician, before returning to Canada to indulge his passion for cycling. He resided in Gibsons, British Columbia, where he owned and operated a bicycle business, Spin Cycle. He has since retired to Victoria, British Columbia. Musical career As a child, he suffered from polio affecting his upper right arm and shoulder, and at the age of 10 he took up guitar playing which also served as physiotherapy for his condition. As a teenager, he played bass in local bars for blues and boogie bands such as The Midnighters and The Pannix. "Back on the Streets" is a 1976 song by the UK rock group Hawkwind. It was originally released as a single in the UK (CB299) on 28 January 1977. Hawkwind had toured the UK in September and October 1976 in support of their album ''Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music'', and although the song had not appeared on that album it was included in the set-list, a live version being later released on the album '' Atomhenge 76''. The group were due to enter AIR Studios in October to record this song as a stand-alone single release, not to be included on any album. However, tensions within the band saw founding member and saxophonist Nik Turner and second drummer Alan Powell being expelled before recording began. The remaining five members cut the single and the song remained in the set during their December tour, after which it was dropped, never to be performed again. Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music
''Astounding Sounds, Amazing Music'' is the sixth studio album by the British rock band Hawkwind, released in 1976. It reached No. 33 on the UK album charts. The title makes references to old science fiction magazines (''Astounding'' and ''Amazing Stories''), the concept being that each piece of music (and its title) would be interpreted as an individual science fiction story. The record cover is a parody of the cover of these magazines, while the inner sleeve carried small ads, with each band member having their own product (e.g. Dr Brock's cure for piles, Paul Rudolph's Manly Strapon, and Simon King's Pleasure Primer). The cover was double sided, one side illustrated by Calvert's childhood friend Tony Hyde, the other by Barney Bubbles signed as Grove Lane, with initial print-runs having either as the front cover. Kerb Crawler
A kerb crawler (or curb crawler) is a person who drives around areas known for street prostitution soliciting prostitutes for sexual activity. The act is known as "kerb crawling" because the person will typically drive very slowly along the kerbside.
