Eparchy of Kyiv ( ua, Київська єпархія) is the central eparchy (diocese) and Metropolis (religious jurisdiction), metropolis of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. The eparchy covers the territory of Kyiv Oblast and most of the city of Kyiv. The seat of the Eparchy is the St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery cathedral in Kyiv. It is the primatial Eparchy, its head being the List of Metropolitans and Patriarchs of Kyiv, Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine. There is an ongoing conflict with the "Honorary Patriarch" Filaret (Denysenko), Filaret for whom the eparchy of Kyiv City was reserved, with its seat in St. Volodymyr Cathedral. The Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC; uk, Українська автокефальна православна церква (УАПЦ), Ukrayinska avtokefalna pravoslavna tserkva (UAPC)) was one of the three major Eastern Orthodox churches in Ukraine. It was reestablished for the third time in 1990, right before the fall of the Soviet Union. The UAOC, in its contemporary form, has its origins in the Sobor of 1921 in Kyiv, shortly after Ukraine's newly found independence. On 15 December 2018, at the Unification Council, the UAOC and the UOC-KP, along with metropolitans from the UOC-MP, unified into the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church Canonical (UAOC-C) is an independent Orthodox Church, that declares its canonical origin from the Polish Orthodox Church. History From the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Metropolitan Dionysius was elevated into the Bishop dignity in 1913 by Gregorios IV, the Patriarch of Antioch, who is considered as having the ordination in the lineage of the Apostle Peter. In 1932, Metropolitan Dionisius ordained Metropolitan Polycarp (Sikorsky), and in 1942, appointed him to the Nazi-occupied Ukraine for the renewing of UAOC and ordination of new bishops. The Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Kyiv is an ecclesiastical territory or archdiocese (archeparchy) of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, a particular Eastern Catholic Church, that is located in the central part of Ukraine.
