Entranced Earth
''Entranced Earth'' ( pt, Terra em Transe , "World in a Trance", also called ''Land in Anguish'' or ''Earth Entranced'') is a 1967 Brazilian ''Cinema Novo'' drama film directed by Glauber Rocha. It was shot in Parque Lage and at the Municipal Theatre of Rio de Janeiro. The film is an allegory for the history of Brazil in the period 1960–1966. Plot The story is told in flashback by a writer who explains how he got into his present situation. He had been supporting a conservative party leader, but then decided to support the liberal candidate. The liberal wins the election, but soon reneges upon his campaign promises. The disillusioned writer decides to stay out of politics and resume his writing. Unfortunately, his girlfriend convinces him to try to talk the country's leader into pursuing a particular direction. Glauber Rocha
Glauber de Andrade Rocha (; 14 March 1939 – 22 August 1981) was a Brazilian film director, actor and screenwriter. He was one of the most influential moviemakers of Brazilian cinema and a key figure of Cinema Novo. His films ''Black God, White Devil'' and ''Entranced Earth'' are often considered to be two of the greatest achievements in Brazilian cinematic history, being selected by Abraccine Top 100 Brazilian films, Abraccine as, respectively, the second and fifth best Brazilian films of all-time. Locarno International Film Festival
The Locarno Film Festival is an annual film festival, held every August in Locarno, Switzerland. Founded in 1946, the festival screens films in various competitive and non-competitive sections, including feature-length narrative, documentary, short, avant-garde, and retrospective programs. The Piazza Grande section is held in an open-air venue that seats 8,000 spectators. The top prize of the festival is the Golden Leopard, awarded to the best film in the International Competition. The Golden Leopard () is the top prize at the Locarno International Film Festival, an international film festival held annually in Locarno, Switzerland since 1946. Brazilian Military Government
The military dictatorship in Brazil ( pt, ditadura militar) was established on 1 April 1964, after a coup d'état by the Brazilian Armed Forces, with support from the United States government, against President João Goulart. The Brazilian dictatorship lasted for 21 years, until 15 March 1985. Thelma Salim Reston (6 July 1937 – 20 December 2012) was a Brazilian film, theater, and television actress. Thelma Reston was born in Piracanjuba, Goiás. She began a theater career in the 1960s and work in television in the 1970s. Reston's earlier filmography includes the 1967 film ''Entranced Earth'' and the 1984 film ''Quilombo''. Flávio Migliaccio (26 August 1934 – 4 May 2020) was a Brazilian actor, film director and screenwriter. He appeared in more than 90 films and television shows between 1958 and 2019. His 1962 film ''The Beggars'' was entered into the 3rd Moscow International Film Festival. His elder sister Dirce Migliaccio was also an actress. Migliaccio was found dead by his property caretaker at his farm in Rio Bonito, Rio de Janeiro, on 4 May 2020, aged 85.
