Entekhab Industrial Group
''Entekhab'' (Persian: انتخاب; ''Choice'') was a Persian language newspaper published in Iran between 1991 and 2004. Nevertheless, its news website is active under the name of "Entekhab" (Entekhab.ir) and has turned into one of the most highly visited news websites in Iran, close to reformists. History ''Entekhab'' was founded by Mohammad Mahdi Faghihi, who was previously the founder of the respected philosophical quarterly, ''Naghd va Nazar''. The daily had a moderate stance and its editorials were mostly educated in Qom's seminary, but their new insights on Entekhab shook the political scene in Iran during the late 1990s. Khamenei ordered the paper to close down shortly after its start. Although it was reopened later, the paper was banned in 2004. Mohammad Mahdi Faghihi
Mohammad Mahdi Faghihi (born March/April 1962 in Mashhad) is an Iranian newspaper publisher. In 1999, he was the newspaper publisher for Entekhab. In 2004, after he left Entekhab, he took on several smaller posts and private sector jobs. During the elections, he seriously criticized the government, strongly supported by Mir Hossein Mousavi. He was commended for transforming the political opposition since the first newsbreak of widespread election fraud, for his public outcry. For two months after the election these comments were censored. Mostafa Faghihi
Mostafa Faghihi (Persian: مصطفی فقیهی) is an Iranian reformist journalist. He has also been the former editor-in-chief and current owner of Entekhab and media consultant to Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani. He has been summoned to Iranian courts several times on charges of insulting the Supreme Leader and President of Iran, criticizing Iranian military and security officials, and spreading lies by the prosecutor, the Ministry of Intelligence, and the Revolutionary Guards. List Of Newspapers In Iran
The first Iranian newspapers appeared in the mid-19th century during the reign of Naser al-Din Shah. More specifically, the first newspaper in Iran, Kaghaz-e Akhbar (The Newspaper), was launched for the government by Mirza Saleh Shirazi in 1837. By 1907 (the era of the Persian Constitutional Revolution), there were 90 newspapers circulating in Iran. In 1952 under Mohammad Musaddiq's government there were 300 newspapers, including twenty-five dailies. During the 1979 revolution the number of newspapers was 100, of which twenty-three were dailies. As of 2000 there were 23 Persian dailies, three English dailies and one Arabic daily in the country. In the period between 2000 and 2004 a total of 85 newspapers were closed down in Iran.
