Entdeckungsfels
The Entdeckungsfels ( it, Roccia della Scoperta, french: Rocher de la découverte) is a minor summit located in Switzerland, close to the Italy, Italian border. It is west of the Lysjoch, between Liskamm and Ludwigshöhe (Monte Rosa), Ludwigshöhe. List Of Alpine Four-thousanders
This list tabulates all of the 82 official mountain summits of or more in height in the Alps, as defined by the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA). All are located within France, Italy or Switzerland, and are often referred to by mountaineers as the Alpine four-thousanders. A further table of 46 subsidiary mountain points which did not meet the UIAA's selection criteria is also included. The official UIAA list of 82 mountain summits, titled in English as 'The 4000ers of the Alps' was first published in 1994. They were selected primarily on a prominence of at least ) above the highest adjacent col or pass. Additional criteria were used to deselect or include some points, based on the mountain's overall morphology and mountaineering significance. Lysjoch
The Lysjoch (or Lisjoch) (french: Col du Lys, it, Colle del Lys) is a very high Mountain pass, pass at in the Alps between Italy and Switzerland. It is located east of the Lyskamm and west of the Ludwigshöhe (Monte Rosa), Ludwigshöhe, a subsidiary summit of Monte Rosa, and makes up the watershed between the Gorner Glacier and the Lys Glacier. Just west of the pass is the Entdeckungsfels, a rock emerging from the ice. The pass connects the valleys of Zermatt on the north side to the valley of Gressoney-La-Trinité, Gressoney on the south side. The Lysjoch is the lowest point between Lyskamm and the slightly higher Monte Rosa, two of the highest independent mountains of the Pennine Alps, constituting the highest key col of any of the List of prominent mountains of the Alps above 3000 m, 300 metre-prominent mountains in the Alps. Swisstopo
Swisstopo is the official name for the Swiss Federal Office of Topography (in German language, German: ''Bundesamt für Landestopografie''; French language, French: ''Office fédéral de topographie''; Italian language, Italian: ''Ufficio federale di topografia''; Romansh language, Romansh: ''Uffizi federal da topografia''), Switzerland's national mapping agency. Pennine Alps
The Pennine Alps (german: Walliser Alpen, french: Alpes valaisannes, it, Alpi Pennine, la, Alpes Poeninae), also known as the Valais Alps, are a mountain range in the western part of the Alps. They are located in Switzerland (Valais) and Italy (Piedmont and the Aosta Valley). The Pennine Alps are amongst the three highest major subranges of the Alps, together with the Bernese Alps and the Mont Blanc massif. Liskamm
Lyskamm (german: Liskamm, formerly ''Lyskamm'', literally "comb of the Lys"), also known as Silberbast (literally "silver bast"), is a mountain () in the Pennine Alps lying on the border between Switzerland and Italy. It consists of a five-kilometre-long ridge with two distinct peaks. The mountain has gained a reputation for seriousness because of the many cornices lying on the ridge and the frequent avalanches, thus leading to its nickname the ''Menschenfresser'' ("people eater"). Geography Despite a prominence of well over 300 metres, Lyskamm is sometimes considered to be part of the extended Monte Rosa group (in fact the Dufourspitze is only 107 metres higher). Ludwigshöhe (Monte Rosa)
Ludwigshöhe is an ''Ortsgemeinde'' – a municipality belonging to a ''Verbandsgemeinde'', a kind of collective municipality – in the Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It belongs to the ''Verbandsgemeinde'' Rhein-Selz. Geography Location The small municipality of Ludwigshöhe lies in Rhenish Hesse, in the Rhine rift a short way west of the Rhine on the old Mainz-Worms trade road, nowadays known as ''Bundesstraße'' 9, almost exactly halfway between the Rhineland-Palatinate state capital of Mainz and the '' Nibelungstadt'' of Worms. Although the list contains 537 summits, some significant alpine mountains are necessarily excluded for failing to meet the stringent prominence criterion.
