Enrichetta Alfieri
Enrichetta Alfieri (23 February 1891 – 23 November 1951) – born ''Maria Angela Domenica Alfieri'' – was an Italian Roman Catholic religious sister and a member of the Sisters of Divine Charity. Alfieri was called also "the mother of San Vittore" and "the angel of San Vittore" due to her extensive work in the San Vittore prison in Milan. She worked there during World War II when the Nazis arrested her on the charge of espionage. The intervention of the Cardinal Archbishop of Milan Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster secured her release. Pope Benedict XVI approved her beatification and delegated Cardinal Angelo Amato to preside over the beatification celebration at the Milan Cathedral on 26 June 2011. Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster
Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster OSB (, ; 18 January 1880 – 30 August 1954), born Alfredo Ludovico Schuster, was an Italian Roman Catholic prelate and professed member from the Benedictines who served as the Archbishop of Milan from 1929 until his death. He became known as Ildefonso as a Benedictine monk and served as an abbot prior to his elevation to the cardinalate. He led the Milanese archdiocese during World War II and was known to have supported Fascism at first. But his views changed to opposition after the annexation of Austria and the introduction of racial laws prompting vocal criticisms of anti-Christian aspects of the Mussolini regime. San Vittore Prison
San Vittore is a prison in the city center of Milan, Italy. Its construction started in 1872 and opened on 7 July 1879. The prison has place for 600 inmates, but it had 1036 prisoners in 2017. History The construction of the new prison was decided after the Italian unification, together with other infrastructure improvement works in Milan in the period between the unification and the city's first town plan of 1889. Until then, prisoners were detained in several other structures not designed as prisons, among them the former Sant'Antonio Abate convent, in the Courthouse and in the former San Vittore convent. For the construction of the new structure the government acquired terrains in the outskirts of the city, in a sparsely developed area at that time.
