Enoki Irqittuq
Enoki Irqittuq is a former territorial level politician from Hall Beach, Nunavut, Canada. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut from 1999 until 2004. Irqittuq was elected in the 1999 Nunavut general election. He won the electoral district of Amittuq in a close race defeating former Northwest Territories MLA Mark Evaloarjuk and three other candidates winning 33% of the popular vote. Legislative Assembly Of Nunavut
The Legislative Assembly of Nunavut is the legislative assembly for the Canadian territory of Nunavut. The seat of the Assembly is the Legislative Building of Nunavut in Iqaluit. Prior to the creation of Nunavut as a Canadian territory on April 1, 1999, the 1999 Nunavut general election was held on February 15 to determine the 1st Nunavut Legislature. The Legislative Assembly was opened by Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, on October 7, 2002, during her Golden Jubilee tour of Canada. In her speech the Queen stated: "I am proud to be the first member of the Canadian Royal Family to be greeted in Canada's newest territory." 2004 Nunavut General Election
The 2004 Nunavut general election was held on February 16, 2004, to elect the 19 members of the 2nd Legislative Assembly of Nunavut. Premier Paul Okalik asked for the five-year-old territory's first parliament to be dissolved on January 16. The territory operates on a consensus government system with no political parties; the premier is subsequently chosen by and from the MLAs. There were 11,285 registered voters at the time of the election call. Mark Evaloarjuk, CM (né Evaluarjuk; 1937 – July 3, 2002) was a northern Canadian business pioneer and politician from Igloolik, Nunavut. He served as a member of the Northwest Territories Legislature from 1975 until 1983, and served as President of Arctic Cooperatives Ltd. In 1981, he became inducted as member of the Order of Canada. Evaluarjuk was first elected to the Northwest Territories Legislature in the 1975 Northwest Territories general election winning the new electoral district of Foxe Basin. He was re-elected to a second term in the 1979 Northwest Territories general election.
