English Schools Foundation
The English Schools Foundation (ESF) is an organisation that runs 22 international schools in Hong Kong. It is Hong Kong's largest English-medium organisation of international schools. It was founded in 1967 with the passage of the English Schools Foundation Ordinance, under which it is mandated to provide "without regard to race or religion, a modern liberal education through the medium of the English language". The foundation receives an ongoing subsidy from the Hong Kong Government, which is being phased out. It is also funded through tuition fees. In the 2021-22 academic year, these fees stood at HK$115,800 per annum for primary school students and HK$133,800 per annum for Years 7–11 secondary school students (HK$140,700 for Years 12 and 13). Although all of the ESF schools are comprehensive and non-selective, students in the foundation have generally done well academically, with 90% of their graduates going to different universities around the world. King George V School (KGV, pronounced "K-G-Five") is a coeducational international secondary independent school of the English Schools Foundation (ESF), located in Ho Man Tin, Hong Kong. Advanced Level (UK)
The General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level, or A Level, is a main school leaving qualification in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. International Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate (IB), formerly known as the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), is a nonprofit foundation headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and founded in 1968. Sha Tin Junior School
Sha Tin Junior School () is a primary school run by the English Schools Foundation in Fo Tan, Sha Tin, New Territories, Hong Kong. The school opened in 1988, and the founding principal Gordon Lewis remained in this post until his retirement in 2004. He was subsequently awarded an OBE in recognition of his services to education in Hong Kong. After the Retirement of Mr Lewis, the new assigned principal was Dr Allan Weston who later resigned at the end of the 2008–09 school year to take over the CEO position at Taipei European School in Taiwan. Since June 2009 the principal has been Mr Perry Tunesi. Mr Tunesi retired August 2019 and he is replaced by Mrs Rehana Shanks. Quarry Bay School is the oldest English Schools Foundation primary school in Hong Kong. There are around 720 students. The principal is currently Sue Yee who started her role in August 2021. Mina Dunstan was principal from 2012 until June 2021. The previous principal was Debra Gardiner who, before he retired, had been at Quarry Bay School for 4 years. History The juvenile hall was opened in 1926 to educate the children of expatriate dockyard workers. It remained in Quarry Bay until the 1970s, briefly interrupted by World War II when it was forced to operate in the Stanley Internment Camp. In 1980 it relocated to temporary premises in Victoria Barracks, and then in 1984 to its current location on Braemar Hill.
