English Harbour East, Newfoundland And Labrador
English Harbour East is a town in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It is located on the northeast side of Fortune Bay. Settled first by the Mi’kmaq of Newfoundland which used land on the "Neck" of the Harbour, they were joined in the early 1800s, by the English Dodge family and by Irishman Thomas Hynes Sr. European fishermen were first brought to the small community by English merchant family of Newman and Co. based in Harbour Breton, the firm of merchant John Gorman, and the Jersey firm of Nicholle and Co. The town had a population of 117 in the Canada 2021 Census. Geography Its boundaries are established by the ''Town of English Harbour East Order'' under the ''Municipalities Act'' (Newfoundland and Labrador). Miawpukek First Nation
Miawpukek First Nation is a Mi'kmaq First Nations band government in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, with a registered population of 834 living on-reserve as of September 2019, with another 2,223 living off-reserve. They control the reserve of Samiajij Miawpukek in Bay d'Espoir on the island of Newfoundland. It was formerly known as Conne River until the 1980s. Samiajij Miawpukek was established as a federal Indian reserve in 1987, the first in Newfoundland and Labrador. In 1991, Miawpukek was one of the poorest communities in Atlantic Canada. Due in part to increased education of its members, it has gone on to become the most well-off First Nation in Atlantic Canada after Membertou. An outport is the term given for a small coastal community in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador other than the chief port of St. John's. Originally, the term was used for coastal communities on the island of Newfoundland, but the term has now been adopted for those on the mainland area of Labrador as well. English Harbour West is a village located on the south west shore of Fortune Bay. It is noted for its bank fishing and inshore fishing. The Way Office was established in 1866 on April 1. The first Way Master was Albert Stirling. In 1891 it became a Post Office town and William Evans was the first Postmaster. Terrenceville is a small town located on the Burin Peninsula of Newfoundland, Canada, south west of Swift Current. History Terrenceville is located on the island of Newfoundland, approximately north of Marystown on Route 211. It was known as Head of Fortune Bay until 1905, when it was renamed in honor of former Newfoundland governor Terence O'Brien. The town was serviced by the C.N. coastal boats until early 1995. It was a main port for many isolated communities on the south coast that needed to get to places such as Marystown, Clarenville, and St. John's. Grand Le Pierre is a town in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The town had a population of 176 in the Canada 2021 Census. History During the 1990's, The council of Grand Le Pierre, Led by Mayor George fizzard, conceived a plan to establish a water bottling plant in the town, the plant would receive runoff water from Gisborne Lake, located within the town's area boundary, and then exported through a facility that was planned to be built in the town's harbour. Newfoundland's Premier at the time, Brian Tobin, first approved this plan, but later retracted his approval, disallowing the project to continue, this decision sparked outrage in the community, as it was expected that 150 jobs were to become available if the plant was established.
