Englewood is an unincorporated community in Lawrence County, in the U.S. state of South Dakota. History Englewood was first called Ten-Mile Ranch. It was originally a stagecoach stop in the late 1870s, and the name changed when it became a railroad center. A post office called Englewood was established in 1892, and remained in operation until 1943. The community most likely was named after Englewood, Chicago Englewood is a neighborhood and community area located on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Lawrence County is a county in the U.S. state of South Dakota. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 25,768. Its county seat is Deadwood. Lawrence County is coextensive with the Spearfish, SD Micropolitan Statistical Area, which is also included in the Rapid City-Spearfish, SD Combined Statistical Area. History Lawrence County was created January 11, 1875, and was organized in 1877. The county was named for "Colonel" John Lawrence, who came to the county as first treasurer in 1877. Lawrence had previously served in the Dakota Territorial Legislature, as a Sergeant at Arms for the United States House of Representatives, and a US Marshal for the Dakota territory. After retirement, he continued to act as county road supervisor and as an election judge. The title "Colonel" was honorary, bestowed by the governor of the Dakota Territory. Englewood is a neighborhood and community area located on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. It is also the 68th of the 77 community areas in the city. At its peak population in 1960, over 97,000 people lived in its approximately , but the neighborhood's population has since dropped dramatically. In 2000, it had a population of approximately 40,000 inhabitants, and the 2010 census indicated that its population has further declined to approximately 30,000.
