4217 Engelhardt, provisional designation , is a stony Phocean asteroid and a potentially binary system from the inner regions of the asteroid belt, approximately 9 kilometers in diameter. It was discovered on 24 January 1988, by American astronomer Carolyn Shoemaker at Palomar Observatory in California, and later named after German mineralogist Wolf von Engelhardt. Classification and orbit ''Engelhardt'' is a stony S-type asteroid and a member of the Phocaea family (). It orbits the Sun in the inner main-belt at a distance of 1.8–2.8 AU once every 3 years and 6 months (1,286 days). Its orbit has an eccentricity of 0.21 and an inclination of 23 ° with respect to the ecliptic. It was first identified as at Turku Observatory in 1944, extending the body's observation arc by 44 years prior to its official discovery observation at Palomar. George Paul Engelhardt (1871–1942) was an American entomologist. Biography Engelhardt was born in 1871, in Germany, where he also received his education. He came to the United States as an emigrant in 1889, and became a citizen. In 1903, he began working for the Brooklyn Museum, where he worked till his retirement in 1930. John Engelhardt
Dr. John Engelhardt is the director at the University of Iowa Center for Gene Therapy of Cystic Fibrosis, as well as the head of the department of anatomy and cell biology. He is a well known scientist and inventor who created the first cloned ferret and has made huge strides in finding the cure for cystic fibrosis. Education Dr. Engelhardt got his undergraduate degree in biochemistry at Iowa State University in 1985. He then went on to get his doctorate in human genetics from Johns Hopkins University in 1990. Research Dr. Engelhardt is most widely known for his creation of new animal models for the study of cystic fibrosis. Zephyrin Engelhardt, O.F.M., (born Charles Anthony Engelhardt; 1851–1934) was a German-born Roman Catholic priest and clerical historian of the Franciscan Order. Life Charles Anthony Engelhardt was born November 13, 1851 in Bilshausen, Hanover, Germany to Anthony and Elizabeth Engelhardt. His father was skilled in the manufacture of willowware. In 1852, the family emigrated to Covington, Kentucky. Charles was educated at St Francis Seraph College in Cincinnati, Ohio. He entered the Franciscan order in 1872 and was ordained in 1878. After ordination, Father Engelhardt taught for a year at St. Joseph's College, Cleveland, Ohio before becoming a missionary to the Menominee people in Wisconsin. Thomas M. Engelhardt (born 1944) is an American writer and editor. He is the creator of Type Media Center's tomdispatch.com, an online blog. He is also the co-founder of the American Empire Project and the author of the 1998 book, ''The End of Victory Culture: Cold War America and the Disillusioning of a Generation''. Netta Engelhardt is an Israeli-American theoretical physicist known for her work resolving the black hole information paradox, concerning the apparent loss of physical information from objects that enter black holes and become transformed into Hawking radiation. She is the Biedenharn Career Development Assistant Professor of Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Marc Engelhardt is a German bassoonist. From 1976 to 1982, he studied with Prof. Günter Pfitzenmaier in Cologne and from 1982 to 1986, with Prof. Klaus Thunemann in Hannover. Engelhardt is an alumnus of the German National Youth Orchestra and the European Union Youth Orchestra, and was appointed principal bassoonist with the Saarbrücken Radio Orchestra in 1986.
