Enes Karić
Enes Karić (born May 16, 1958) is a Bosnian Islamic scholar and full professor of Quranic Studies at the Faculty of Islamic Studies, University of Sarajevo. From 1994 to 1996, he served as the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports in the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Biography Born on May 16, 1958 in Travnik, Bosnia and Herzegovina to Emin and Sabiha, Karić initially studied Islam and political science at the University of Sarajevo and graduated in 1981 and 1982 respectively. He earned a M.A. in philosophy from the same university in 1986, and obtained his Ph.D. in philology from the University of Belgrade in 1989. He has also completed other post-graduate and post-doctoral studies at the University of Cairo (1983), al-Azhar University (1983), Yale University (1990), and Oxford University (2006). Travnik
Travnik is a town and a municipality in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is the administrative center of Central Bosnia Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is situated in central Bosnia and Herzegovina, west of Sarajevo. As of 2013, the town had a population of 15,344 inhabitants, while the municipality had 53,482 inhabitants. Historically, it was the capital city of the governors of Bosnia from 1699 to 1850, and has a cultural heritage dating from that period. The name traces back to Plato's school of philosophy, founded approximately 385 BC at Akademia, a sanctuary of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and skill, north of Athens, Greece. Etymology The word comes from the ''Academy'' in ancient Greece, which derives from the Athenian hero, ''Akademos''. Outside the city walls of Athens, the gymnasium was made famous by Plato as a center of learning. The sacred space, dedicated to the goddess of wisdom, Athena, had formerly been an olive grove, hence the expression "the groves of Academe".
