Energen Junior Match Play
The Energen Junior Match Play was a golf tournament on the British PGA Circuit that was played in October 1969. The event was restricted to the leading 16 golfers, under the age of 25 on 1 April 1969, in the PGA Order of Merit. Play was over two days, with two 18-hole rounds on each day. Total prize money was £2,500. It was played at Sene Valley Golf Club, Hythe, Kent. The tournament was won by Craig Defoy who beat Guy Hunt 2&1 in the final. Defoy hit a one-iron to within 4 feet at the 17th to take the match. Harry Vardon Trophy
The Harry Vardon Trophy is awarded by the European Tour. Since 2009 it has been awarded to the winner of the Race to Dubai. Before then it was awarded to the winner of the "Order of Merit". From 1975 to 2008 the Order of Merit was based on prize money but before that date a points system was used. From 1937 until the European Tour became an independent organisation, the award was presented by the British PGA. The trophy is named for the Jersey golfing great Harry Vardon, who died in 1937. The Race to Dubai is calculated in euro, although many of the events have prize funds which are fixed in other currencies, mainly pounds sterling or U.S. dollars. Hythe, Kent
Hythe () is a coastal market town on the edge of Romney Marsh, in the district of Folkestone and Hythe on the south coast of Kent. The word ''Hythe'' or ''Hithe'' is an Old English word meaning haven or landing place. Craig Defoy
Craig Bryan Defoy (born 27 March 1947) is a Welsh professional golfer. He finished fourth in the 1971 Open Championship. Professional career Defoy had a successful start to his tournament career, winning three age-restricted events, the Gor-Ray Under-24 Championship in 1968 and Lord Derby’s Under-23 Professional Tournament and the Energen Junior Match Play, for under-25s, in 1969. Defoy later played on the European Tour where he did not win but had three second-place finishes: 1973 Spanish Open, 1976 Sun Alliance Match Play Championship, and 1977 Skol Lager Individual (playoff loss). Playing with Derek Small he was also runner-up in the 1974 Sumrie-Bournemouth Better-Ball, losing a playoff. He won five times on the Safari Circuit between 1970 and 1973. Guy Hunt (golfer)
Guy Lewis Hunt (born 17 January 1947) is an English professional golfer. He won the 1977 Dunlop Masters and played in the 1975 Ryder Cup. Professional career Hunt turned professional as a sixteen-year-old in 1963 becoming an assistant at Bishop's Stortford Golf Club. He had some success in 1968, winning the Southern Professional Championship and then Lord Derby’s Under-23 Professional Tournament by 8 strokes. In 1969 he was runner-up in the Energen Junior Match Play, losing 2&1 to Craig Defoy in the final, while in 1971 he was runner-up to John Garner in the Coca-Cola Young Professionals' Championship. Hunt played regularly on the European Tour from its foundation in 1972 until 1979. He had an exceptionally consistent season in 1972. David Jones (golfer)
David Jones (born 22 June 1947) is a former European Tour golfer from Bangor, Northern Ireland. His best season was 1981, when he won the Irish PGA Championship and was joint third in the Carroll's Irish Open. He also won the 1989 Kenya Open and later played on the European Seniors Tour, winning the 1999 Jersey Seniors Open. Golf career Jones played regularly on the European Tour from the start of the tour in 1972. He had limited success, his best finish being tied for third in the 1981 Carroll's Irish Open.
