''End of Summer'' is a 1977 Australian television film directed by Oscar Whitbread and written by Cliff Green. With a story concerning rural depression and a family leaving their farm, it was adapted from Green's earlier screenplay ''Moving On'' for the Commonwealth Film Unit. It was first broadcast as part of the ABC's ''Stuart Wagstaff's World Playhouse'' series. ''End of Summer'' received the 1978 Sammy Award for Best TV Play. Oscar Whitbread
Oscar Ralph Whitbread (26 November 1929 – 16 May 2016) was an English-Australian producer who worked extensively in television. He moved to Australia in the late 1940s. Whitbread started his career at the ABC in 1956, where he served as the Head of Drama, before switching to the same position with the Seven Network. He was responsible for numerous successful series including '' Bellbird'', ''The Flying Doctors'' and the miniseries ''Power Without Glory''. Whitbread was the senior executive producer at Crawford Productions and also worked in England for the BBC, Thames Television, Granada Television and London Weekend Television. During the 1970s, he worked as a lecturer in theatre media studies, at Charles Sturt University, Bathurst, New South Wales. Personal life Whitbread was married to Corinne Kerby. Cliff Green
Clifford Green OAM (6 December 1934 – 4 December 2020), born in Melbourne, Australia, was an Australian screen writer, whose best-known work is the script for the film '' Picnic at Hanging Rock'' (1975). Career Green spent his early working life as a country school teacher, which was reflected in his script for the 1974 ABC TV series, ''Marion''. He was able to write in a wide variety of genres, and his screenplay for Peter Weir’s ''Picnic At Hanging Rock'' was a landmark in the renaissance of the Australian film industry in the 1970s. In 1981, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation produced ''I Can Jump Puddles'', a mini-series written by Green, based on Alan Marshall's autobiographical stories. Film Australia was a company established by the Government of Australia to produce films about Australia in 1973. Its predecessors were the Cinema and Photographic Branch (1913–38), the Australian National Film Board (1939–1955, under different departments), and the Commonwealth Film Unit (1956–72). Anthony Frederick Bonner (born 23 November 1943) is an Australian television, film and stage actor and singer. Bonner became famous in the 1960s children's television series '' Skippy the Bush Kangaroo'', later moving on to lead roles in the dramas ''Cop Shop'' and ''Skyways''. Early life Bonner was born in Manly, a northern beach suburb of Sydney. His grandfather, James Bonner, was a former Mayor of Manly and founding President of the Manly Life Saving Club. Sydney Leicester Conabere (8 July 191815 July 2008) was an Australian actor. He was notable for his work in theatre, film and television drama in a career spanning more than fifty years.
