Encounter In The Third Dimension
''Encounter in the Third Dimension'' (sometimes referred to as ''Encounter in the Dimension'' due to the title screen's spelling error) is a 3-D film directed by Ben Stassen and Sean McLeod Phillips. It was released in the US on March 31, 1999. It has been shown in 3-D theaters and released on DVD with 3-D glasses, in both 2-D and 3-D format. Plot In his lab, the Professor ( Stuart Pankin) does an intro for the Institute of 3-D Technology, but the intro dies, so the Professor uses the Letter Cannon for the title of the movie. However, it spells the word "third" as "thrid", so the Professor activates the spell correction, resulting in the lab's screen being destroyed and several fires being started, which are put out by the Professor's robot assistant, M.A.X. 3-D Film
3D films are motion pictures made to give an illusion of three-dimensional solidity, usually with the help of special glasses worn by viewers. They have existed in some form since 1915, but had been largely relegated to a niche in the motion picture industry because of the costly hardware and processes required to produce and display a 3D film, and the lack of a standardized format for all segments of the entertainment business. Nonetheless, 3D films were prominently featured in the 1950s in American cinema, and later experienced a worldwide resurgence in the 1980s and 1990s driven by IMAX high-end theaters and Disney-themed venues. 3D films became increasingly successful throughout the 2000s, peaking with the success of 3D presentations of ''Avatar'' in December 2009, after which 3D films again decreased in popularity. Ben Stassen
Ben Stassen is a Belgian film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for directing and producing several computer-animated films such as '' A Turtle's Tale: Sammy's Adventures'' (2010), ''Robinson Crusoe'' (2016), and ''The Queen's Corgi'' (2019). Career Stassen founded nWave Pictures in 1994, producing CG ride films including ''Devil's Mine''. Starting in 1997, Stassen began focusing on large-format films, directing ''Thrill Ride: The Science of Fun'' and ''Alien Adventure''. In the late 1990s, Stassen directed a succession of 3-D large-format films, including ''Encounter in the Third Dimension'' and '' Haunted Castle''. In 2005, Stassen produced and directed ''Wild Safari 3D'', the first 3-D wildlife film for the giant screen. Harry Shearer
Harry Julius Shearer (born December 23, 1943) is an American actor, comedian, writer, musician, radio host, director and producer. Born in Los Angeles, California, Shearer began his career as a child actor. From 1969 to 1976, Shearer was a member of The Credibility Gap, a radio comedy group. Following the breakup of the group, Shearer co-wrote the film ''Real Life'' (1979) with Albert Brooks and worked as a writer on Martin Mull's television series ''Fernwood 2 Night''.
