''En Annan'' (), is a 1970 Indian Tamil-language crime thriller film, directed by P. Neelakantan, starring M. G. Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa. The film is a remake of the Telugu film '' Poola Rangadu'' (1967), which itself was loosely based on A. J. Cronin's novel, '' Beyond This Place''. It was released on 21 May 1970, and ran 100 days in theatres. Plot Ranga is the son of Velappan, a manager at a mill. Velappan is framed for the murder of one of the partners, Karunagaran. He is sent to jail for a crime he didn't commit. Ranga, since then, works hard to get his sister Thangam educated. She marries a doctor, Murali, who happens to be Karunagaran's son. When he finds out she is Velappan's daughter, he leaves her. Ranga is enraged and beats his lover Valliammal's brother Nagappan, who informs Murali. Ranga is sent to jail. ''Beyond This Place'' is a novel by Scottish author A. J. Cronin first published in 1950. The first edition for Australia and New Zealand was in 1953. A serial version appeared in '' Collier's'' under the title of ''To Live Again''. Adaptations The novel has been adapted for both film and television. In Bengali, '' Sabar Uparey'' starring Uttam Kumar, Suchitra Sen and Chhabi Biswas was made in 1955. The Ripon Building is the seat and headquarters of the Greater Chennai Corporation in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It is an example of neoclassical architecture, a combination of Ionic and Corinthian styles. The Ripon Building is an all-white structure and is located near the Dr. M.G.R Railway Station. History Commissioned in 1909, the Ripon Building was designed by G.T.S. Harris. The foundation stone was laid by Lord Minto, Viceroy of India, on December 11, 1909. It was built by Loganatha Mudaliar, and took four years to build at a cost of 750,000, including a sum of 550,000 paid to Mudaliar.
