Emīls Urbāns
Emīls Urbāns was a Latvian footballer, a three-time champion of Latvia. Before World War I Urbāns played in a youth football club called Jakor Riga together with other future Latvia national football team footballers Kārlis Bone, Alberts Šeibelis and others. His best years in football came in the mid-1920s when he played with RFK (from 1924 to 1927) and with Riga Vanderer (from 1928). When playing with RFK Urbāns won three Latvian Higher League titles and two Riga Football Cups. In 1927 he was first capped for the national football team and in his second match for Latvia he scored his first goal. In total he played 9 matches for Latvia between 1927 and 1928 and scored two goals. In later years as a member of the Riga Vanderer sports club Urbāns appeared in less and less matches and he last played for Vanderer in 1935, although he remained a member of Riga Vanderer club after he finished playing. Latvia National Football Team
The Latvia national football team ( lv, Latvijas futbola izlase) represents Latvia in international football and is controlled by the Latvian Football Federation, the governing body for football in Latvia. They have never qualified for the FIFA World Cup, however, they have qualified for the European Championship in 2004 under head coach Aleksandrs Starkovs. Latvia, alongside their Baltic rivals, Lithuania and Estonia, have also participated in the local sub-regional Baltic Cup tournament, which takes place every two years. Kārlis Eduards Bone (19 February 1899 – 13 November 1941) was a Latvian footballer. He played four matches for the Latvia national football team between 1920 and 1924 and competed in the men's tournament at the 1924 Summer Olympics. Alberts Šeibelis
Alberts Šeibelis (26 December 1906 – 12 April 1972) was a Latvian footballer, one of the most popular Latvian footballers in the era before World War II. In 54 matches for Latvia he scored 14 goals Biography Šeibelis was born in the provincial town Sabile. In 1922 he joined the newly founded Rīgas FK which later became the dominant Latvian football club of the 1920s-30s. In RFK Šeibelis for a long time had to play with the reserves squad, however in 1925 he made his debut with the Latvia national football team which was looking to include more young players. In his first years Šeibelis more played as a forward but later he became a central midfielder. He organized both the defense and attack, and also scored goals. Rīgas FK
Riga FK (''Rīgas futbola klubs'', short – RFK) was a Latvian football club which was founded December 14, 1923. It was the strongest and most popular Latvian football club in 1920s and 1930s, it was also the base team for Latvia national football team in its early years. It was closed after World War II. The idea for its creation came about in 1922 with the goal of uniting Latvian players on a team which could beat the mostly-German Ķeizarmežs. The founder and manager was Juris Rēdlihs, one of the most active football organizers in Latvia. In 1923, most of the best Latvian footballers from JKS moved to Riga FK. Those included Hermanis Saltups, Ašmanis, Eihmanis, Roga, Bone, Sokolovs, Zemīts and brothers Edvīns, Rūdolfs and Arvīds Bārda. Riga Vanderer (sometimes written as Wanderer, in later years – Rīgas Vilki, also – RV) was a Latvian football club that was founded in 1927, disbanded in 1940, restored a year later and disbanded again in 1944. Latvian Higher League or Virslīga is a professional football league and the top tier of association football in Latvia. Bandy is a winter sport and ball sport played by two teams wearing ice skates on a large ice surface (either indoors or outdoors) while using sticks to direct a ball into the opposing team's goal. The international governing body for bandy is the Federation of International Bandy (FIB).
