Emporia State Hornets Football Seasons
This is a list of Emporia State Hornets football season records. The Emporia State Hornets football team is the football team of Emporia State University, located in the American city of Emporia, Kansas. The team competes as a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) at the NCAA Division II level. Since the program's beginning in 1893, they have been known as the Normals, the Teachers, the Yaps, and the Hornets. Since 1937, Emporia State's football team has played in Francis G. Welch Stadium, named after the long-time coach and athletic director at Emporia State. Emporia State has won 16 conference championships: six in the Kansas Conference, six in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, two in the Great Plains Athletic Conference, one in the Central States Intercollegiate Conference, and one in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. Emporia State Hornets Football
The Emporia State Hornets football program is a college football team that represents Emporia State University, often referred to as "Emporia State" or "ESU". The team competes as a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA), which is a conference in the NCAA Division II, Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The program began in 1897 college football season, 1897 and has fifteen conference titles. On December 15, 2006, former Hornet quarterback Garin Higgins became the team's List of Emporia State Hornets head football coaches, 24th head coach, following the resignation of Dave Wiemers. Home games are played on Francis G. Welch Stadium, Jones Field at Welch Stadium, located on the Emporia State University campus in Emporia, Kansas. Boot Hill Bowl
The Boot Hill Bowl was a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics post-season college football bowl game, played in Dodge City, Kansas from 1970 to 1980. Game results Historical highlights 1971 game On December 4, 1971, the Dakota State College football Trojans helped make history as they were the first college football team from South Dakota to win a post-season bowl game. The Boot Hill Bowl Champion Trojans posted a record of nine wins and two losses that season and were ranked as high as number seven in the national rankings. Jim Lance
James E. Lance (April 21, 1931 – February 25, 2016) was an American football coach. He was the 16th head football coach at Kansas State Teachers College—now known as Emporia State University—in Emporia, Kansas, serving for two seasons, from 1969 to 1970, and compiling a record of record of 7–11. Lance was born April 21, 1931, in Evansville, Indiana. After serving in the United States Navy during the Korean War, Lance graduated from Murray State University in 1959 with a Bachelor of Science. The Mineral Water Bowl is an annual American NCAA Division II college football bowl game between teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and an at large opponent hosted in Excelsior Springs, Missouri at Tiger Stadium. History From 1948 to 1951, the Mineral Water Bowl was a high school bowl game to showcase the Excelsior Springs High School team against another Missouri high school squad in the school's Thanksgiving contest. Keith E. Caywood (February 19, 1919 – October 20, 1992) was an American football coach. Fran Welch
Francis George Welch (August 21, 1895 – June 19, 1970) was an American football player and coach, track and field coach, and college athletics administrator. He was of the first three coaches to be selected for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Track and Field Hall of Fame and is a member of the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame. In 1960, Emporia State University named the football stadium Francis G. Welch Stadium to honor his legacy. George McLaren (American Football)
George W. "Tank" McLaren (August 29, 1896 – November 13, 1967) was an American football and basketball player and coach. Playing at the University of Pittsburgh under legendary football coach Pop Warner, McLaren was an All-American in 1917 and 1918. During his playing career, he was never stopped for a loss on a running play. McLaren served as head football coach at Emporia State University, then known as Kansas State Normal College, (1919), the University of Arkansas (1920–1921), the University of Cincinnati (1922–1926), and the University of Wyoming (1927–1929), compiling a career record of 32–55–8.
