Emporia State Hornets Football
The Emporia State Hornets football program is a college football team that represents Emporia State University, often referred to as "Emporia State" or "ESU". The team competes as a member of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA), which is a conference in the NCAA Division II, Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The program began in 1897 college football season, 1897 and has fifteen conference titles. On December 15, 2006, former Hornet quarterback Garin Higgins became the team's List of Emporia State Hornets head football coaches, 24th head coach, following the resignation of Dave Wiemers. Home games are played on Francis G. Welch Stadium, Jones Field at Welch Stadium, located on the Emporia State University campus in Emporia, Kansas. Kent Weiser
Kent L. Weiser (born April 25, 1959) is an American university sports administrator and former college golf coach. Weiser served the athletic director for Emporia State University, a NCAA Division II sports program in Emporia, Kansas, 1999 to 2022. Previously, Weiser was the associate athletics director at Oregon State University. Early years Weiser was born in Great Bend, Kansas and attended Great Bend High School. After high school, Wesier attended the University of Kansas (KU) where he graduated with a bachelor's in psychology and a master's of science in sports administration. Career After graduating from the University of Kansas, Weiser became the director of athletic ticketing in 1981 and in 1985, Weiser became KU's first athletic marketing director. College Of Emporia
The College of Emporia was a private college in Emporia, Kansas from 1882 to 1974, and was associated with the Presbyterian church. When founded, it was one of two higher education institutions in the city of Emporia, the other at that time was the "Kansas State Normal School" established for teacher training and was later renamed Kansas State Teachers College (KSTC) and reorganized in the mid-to-late 1970s as a state liberal arts college with the name changed to Emporia State University. The Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) is a college athletic conference affiliated with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). George McLaren (American Football)
George W. "Tank" McLaren (August 29, 1896 – November 13, 1967) was an American football and basketball player and coach. Playing at the University of Pittsburgh under legendary football coach Pop Warner, McLaren was an All-American in 1917 and 1918. During his playing career, he was never stopped for a loss on a running play. McLaren served as head football coach at Emporia State University, then known as Kansas State Normal College, (1919), the University of Arkansas (1920–1921), the University of Cincinnati (1922–1926), and the University of Wyoming (1927–1929), compiling a career record of 32–55–8. Homer Woodson "Bill" Hargiss (September 1, 1887 – October 15, 1978) was an American athlete and coach. He played American football and basketball and also competed in track and field events. Additionally, Hargis coached athletics in Kansas and Oregon. Frederick Almor Williams (June 13, 1878 – January 31, 1962) was an American football coach.
