''Emoh'' is a solo album by Lou Barlow, the first with his real name; the album was released in the USA in 2005 by Domino and by Merge Records and recorded in 2004. ''Rolling Stone'' gave the album 3 stars out of 5 and noted: " ll of quiet lyricism and Nick Drake beauty..." ''Uncut'' (p. 108) gave 4 stars out of 5 and said: "Using acoustic guitar, piano and vocals, he delivers 14 sweetly somber neo-folk tunes that reveal just how subtly persuasive the man's influence really is." The album was recorded when Barlow was "in a better place" after some years of struggling due to Sebadoh's hiatus, John Davis leaving The Folk Implosion and personal problems. Lou Barlow
Louis Knox Barlow (born July 17, 1966) is an American alternative rock musician and songwriter. A founding member of the groups Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh and The Folk Implosion, Barlow is credited with helping to pioneer the lo-fi style of rock music in the late 1980s and early 1990s. His first band, which was formed in Amherst, Massachusetts, was Deep Wound. Barlow was born in Dayton, Ohio, and raised in Jackson, Michigan, and Westfield, Massachusetts. Barlow has released four solo albums, the latest of which is the May 28, 2021 release ''Reason to Live.'' Dinosaur Jr. Barlow attended high school in Westfield, Massachusetts, where he met Scott Helland. The two formed the Massachusetts-based hardcore punk band Deep Wound. Imaad Wasif
Imaad Wasif is an Indian singer, guitarist and songwriter whose music combines elements of psychedelic folk and rock. Wasif’s music has been described as "unbelievably intense with sparkling, raga-influenced guitar and a mystic bent." In 2006, he started releasing solo albums. Also during 2006–2008, Wasif played with Yeah Yeah Yeahs for the Show Your Bones world tour playing acoustic guitar, bass and synths. He performed as the supporting act for most shows. Music According to Barlow, the album was released during a low point in his career, "with the dual major label failures of ''The Sebadoh''...and the Folk Implosion’s '' One Part Lullaby''," and the album "chronicles the time well." The songs were recorded at different times, mostly in 2000 and 2001, but some dating back to 1990. "What Would Jesus Do" was recorded live in a small house in Kentucky by Sebadoh member Jason Loewenstein during rehearsals for the band's 1999 release, ''The Sebadoh'', and was co-written by that album's drummer Russ Pollard, who also provided backup vocals. In sound and music, sampling is the reuse of a portion (or sample) of a sound recording in another recording. Samples may comprise elements such as rhythm, melody, speech, sounds or entire bars of music, and may be layered, equalized, sped up or slowed down, repitched, looped, or otherwise manipulated. They are usually integrated using hardware ( samplers) or software such as digital audio workstations. A process similar to sampling originated in the 1940s with '' musique concrète'', experimental music created by splicing and looping tape. Roland Octapad is a range of MIDI electronic drum percussion controllers produced by the Roland Corporation. Roland Pad-8 The first model, introduced in 1985, was the Pad-8. Originally to be called MPC-8 (MIDI Percussion Controller 8), but was renamed Pad-8 to avoid legal implications with MPC Electronics. It was an influential device at that time, allowing drummers and percussionists the opportunity to trigger virtually any MIDI sound source without the need of a full electronic drum set. Sebadoh
Sebadoh () is an American indie rock band formed in 1986 in Northampton, Massachusetts, by Eric Gaffney and Lou Barlow, with multi-instrumentalist Jason Loewenstein completing the line-up in 1989. Barlow co-created Sebadoh as an outlet for his songwriting when J. Mascis gradually took over creative control of Dinosaur Jr., in which Barlow plays bass guitar. Along with such bands as Pavement, Beat Happening and Guided by Voices, Sebadoh helped pioneer a lo-fi style of indie rock characterized by low-fidelity recording techniques that employed four-track cassette tape machines.
