Emmerdale Live
On 17 October 2012, a live episode of the British soap opera '' Emmerdale'' was broadcast, marking the 40th anniversary of the first episode in 1972. The episode was broadcast at the usual time of 7 pm on ITV1 for England & Wales and STV in Scotland. For the 40th anniversary live episode, ''Emmerdale'' announced that a character would die, and that character was Carl King (played by Tom Lister), who was hit with a brick by his love rival Cameron Murray (Dominic Power). The episode also featured a wedding and two births. Behind-the-scenes footage was also included. Production To celebrate ''Emmerdales 40th anniversary, it was announced on 1 May 2012 that the show would have its first-ever live episode. On 25 June 2012, it was announced that Tony Prescott, who directed the 50th anniversary live episode of Coronation Street in December 2010 would direct the episode. ''Emmerdale'' (known as ''Emmerdale Farm'' until 1989) is a British soap opera that is broadcast on ITV1. The show is set in Emmerdale (known as Beckindale until 1994), a fictional village in the Yorkshire Dales. Created by Kevin Laffan, ''Emmerdale Farm'' was first broadcast on 16 October 1972. Interior scenes have been filmed at the Leeds Studios since its inception. Exterior scenes were first filmed in Arncliffe in Littondale, and the series may have taken its name from Amerdale, an ancient name of Littondale. Exterior scenes were later shot at Esholt, but are now shot at a purpose-built set on the Harewood estate. The programme is broadcast in every ITV region. Zak Dingle
Zak Dingle is a fictional character from the British soap opera ''Emmerdale'', played by Steve Halliwell. He first appeared on 20 October 1994.
