Emma Ríos
Emma Ríos Maneiro (born April 1, 1976, Vilagarcía de Arousa) is a Spanish comics artist, writer, and editor with an international presence in the comics industry. She has worked for some of the largest American comics publishers, including Marvel, Image, and Boom! Studios. She has several ongoing titles: ''Mirror'' with Malaysian artist Hwei Lim and ''Pretty Deadly'' with American writer Kelly Sue Deconnick. The latter earned Ríos Eisner award nominations for Best Penciller/Inker/Artist and Best Cover Artist in 2014 and a win for Best Cover Artist in 2020. She is also a rapier fencer specializing in La Verdadera Destreza. Early life Ríos began drawing as a child and is a self-taught artist. Lucca Comics & Games is an annual Comic book convention, comic book and gaming convention in Lucca, Italy, traditionally held at the end of October, in conjunction with All Saints' Day. It is the largest comics festival in Europe, and the second biggest in the world after the Comiket. History The Salone Internazionale del Comics ("International Congress of Comics") was launched by a Franco-Italian partnership, consisting of Italians Rinaldo Traini and Romano Calisi and Frenchman (forming the International Congress of Cartoonists and Animators) in 1965 in Bordighera. In 1966, it moved to a small piazza in the center of Lucca, and grew in size and importance over the years. Funding issues reduced the frequency of the festival to every two years, beginning in 1977. In the 1980s, the festival was moved to a sports center outside the city walls, where it remained until 1992, when it was moved to another city. Michael Alan Nelson
Michael Alan Nelson (born June 6, 1971) is an American comic book writer and novelist. He is best known for the comic book and novel series ''Hexed'', ''Supergirl'' comics, and co-writing the " Day Men" comics series. Nelson has written over 30 graphic novels. Nelson has co-written a variety of graphic novels with notable collaborators from "Malignant Man" with film director James Wan to "Insurrection 3.6" with screenwriter Blake Masters to actor Peter Facinelli on "Protocol Orphans" to "The Last Reign: Kings of War" with Wild Hogs director Walt Becker. Nelson has worked with some of the top comic book artists in the industry. His series "Day Men" features artwork by the illustrator Brian Stelfreeze. Illustrators such as Paul Pope (Hexed), Sean Phillips (28 Days Later), Tim Bradstreet (28 Days Later), and John Cassaday (Swordsmith Assassin) have generated covers for Nelson's series. ''Infested'' is a 2023 French horror film conceived, co-written, and directed by Sébastien Vaniček in his feature directorial debut. Its original French title is ''Vermines'', which is literally ''Vermin'' in English. The film stars Théo Christine as a twenty-something banlieue resident who takes home a lethal desert spider that reproduces rapidly and causes a massive infestation in the neighborhood. Sofia Lesaffre, Jérôme Niel, Lisa Nyarko, and Finnegan Oldfield are featured in supporting roles. Vaniček conceived the film as a social commentary on xenophobia, finding parallels between spiders and banlieue residents.
