Emma Lonsdale
Emma Lonsdale (born 24 April 1984) is a freestyle skier who competes in the halfpipe. Her Olympics debut was at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, competing for Team GB. Early life and education Emma Lonsdale was born on 24 April 1984 in Langcliffe, Settle, North Yorkshire, England. Lonsdale began skiing at the age of 2, and soon became amongst the members of the Kendal Snowsports club. Her secondary school was Settle High School. She (in addition to the majority of the GB skiing team) learned how to ski on Snowflex, which has led to the team being called the "fridge kids". Skiing career Lonsdale competed in alpine skiing for 16 years. However, she switched sports to freestyle skiing, where she trialled several disciplines: mogul, aerial, and skiercross. She eventually decided to participate in halfpipe skiing. Langcliffe
Langcliffe is a village and civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, in England. It lies to the north of Settle and east of Giggleswick. The River Ribble runs along the west of the village. Langcliffe lies within one of eight regions covered by the Yorkshire Dales National Park, established in 1954. Skiercross
Ski cross is a skiing competition which incorporates terrain features traditionally found in freestyle skiing with courses which include big-air jumps and high-banked turns. In spite of the fact that it is a timed racing event, it is often considered a type of freestyle skiing. What sets ski cross apart from other alpine skiing disciplines is that it involves more than one skier racing down the course. Any intentional contact with other competitors like grabbing or any other forms of contact meant to give the competitor an advantage leads to disqualification. Murray Buchan (born 2 December 1991), nicknamed Muzza, is a freestyle skier who competes in the halfpipe. Buchan's Olympic debut was at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, where he competed on 18 February 2014 in the halfpipe, finishing in 17th place in the qualification round. Personal life Buchan was born on 2 December 1991 in Edinburgh, Scotland. His father was a member of the Glenshee Ski Centre mountain rescue team. Career Buchan began skiing at an Edinburgh dry skiing slope at age 8, encouraged by his parents; he wanted to follow his father and be part of a mountain rescue team. James Machon (skier)
James Machon (born 23 November 1990) is a freestyle skier who competes in the halfpipe, his first Olympics was the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Biography Machon was born on 23 November 1990, in Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. He was schooled at Bamford Primary School, and went to Leeds Metropolitan University. He started skiing at the age of 6. Between the age of 6 and until he was 14, went on annual ski holidays with his family. He began practising freestyle skiing in the Sheffield freestyle skiing park when he was 15 years old. Half-pipe skiing is snow ski on a half-pipe. The sport is considered to be dangerous compared to other sports, and helmets are required to be worn during competitions. Rowan Cheshire (born 1 September 1995) is a British freestyle skier, specialising in the halfpipe. Cheshire competed in the 2013 FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup in Voss, Norway, where she finished 17th. She won a bronze medal at the 2013 World Junior Championships in Valmalenco. In January 2014 she became the first British female skier to win a halfpipe competition on the FIS Freestyle Skiing World Cup when she took the halfpipe event at a meeting in Calgary. FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2011
The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2011 were the 41st FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, held 7–20 February in Germany at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Bavaria. These were the second alpine world championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, which previously hosted in 1978. It also hosted the first Olympic alpine skiing competition, a combined event at the 1936 Winter Olympics. The FIS awarded the championships on 25 May 2006, in Vilamoura, Portugal. The runner-up was Schladming, Austria, which hosted the next championships in 2013. Prior to landing the 2011 event in 2006, Garmisch-Partenkirchen had unsuccessfully bid to host the world championships five times in the previous two decades.
