Miss Sweden or Miss Universe Sweden (in Swedish: ''Fröken Sverige''), is the title of the Swedish beauty pageant, qualifying delegates to the Miss Universe competition. In 2009 the pageant renamed as Miss Universe Sweden and the first national final was held on June 6, 2009, the National Day of Sweden. Among the judges were Yvonne Ryding, Miss Universe 1984. The pageant is a late branch of the Miss Sweden contest. The director of the contest is Joakim Granberg of the Starworld Entertainment Corporation. Miss Universe 1999, the 48th Miss Universe pageant, was held on 26 May 1999 at the Chaguaramas Convention Centre in Chaguaramas, Trinidad and Tobago. Mpule Kwelagobe of Botswana was crowned by Wendy Fitzwilliam of Trinidad and Tobago at the end of the event. Vasaloppet
(Swedish for 'the Vasa-race') is an annual long distance cross-country ski race held on the first Sunday of March. The course starts in the village of Berga, just south of Sälen in western Dalarna, Sweden, and ends in the town of Mora in the central part of the province. It is the oldest cross-country ski race in the world, as well as the one with the highest number of participants. The race was inspired by a notable journey King Gustav Vasa made from Mora to Sälen when he was fleeing from Christian II's soldiers during the winter of 1520–1521 in the beginning of the Swedish War of Liberation. According to legend, he fled on skis. The modern competition started in 1922 and it has been a part of the Worldloppet events since 1979. Mathias Fredriksson
Mathias Fredriksson (born 11 February 1973 in Uddevalla, Västra Götaland County) is a Swedish former cross-country skier who has competed since 1993. He earned a bronze medal in the 4 × 10 km relay at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin. Fredriksson's best Olympic finish was at these same Olympics with a tenth in the 50 km event. Fredriksson has won four medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships; two silvers (15 km and 4 × 10 km: both 2001) and two bronzes (4 × 10 km relay: 2003, 2007). He has 34 victories on the national, FIS, and World Cup levels at various distances since 1993. He won the World Cup in the 2002–03 season. Fredriksson has a brother, Thobias Fredriksson, at the same professional level. He is married to Emma Helena Nilsson.
