The Emirati Chess Championship is organized by the United Arab Emirates Chess Federation. It is one of the major national chess competitions of the United Arab Emirates held at standard time controls, the other being the UAE President's Cup, which has been held annually since 1994. UAE Chess Federation
United Arab Emirates Chess Federation (UAECF) was established in October 1976 to spread and develop the game of chess as a mental and cultural sport across the United Arab Emirates. It organizes national tournaments such as the Emirati Chess Championship. The UAECF took part in the Against Chess Olympiad held in Libya in 1976. In 1977, it became a member of FIDE. Later on, chess started to spread across all Emirates and chess clubs were set up in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Fujairah and Al-Ain. Chess & Culture Club for Sharjah Women was opened in 1991 and another club for women was affiliated with Dubai Chess and Culture Club in 2000. now there are 16 club officially registered in UAE chess federation. All these clubs play a key role in the discovery and training the young talents, and later on UAECF choose the best players for the national teams, where they come for training under supervision of head coach of UAECF. A time control is a mechanism in the tournament play of almost all two-player board games so that each round of the match can finish in a timely way and the tournament can proceed. Time controls are typically enforced by means of a game clock, where the times below are given per player. Dubai Chess And Culture Club
Dubai Chess and Culture Club was established in 1979 as a part of the UAE Chess Federation, the governing body of chess in the UAE, and was officially recognized as an independent entity on May 16, 1981. The club's headquarters was acclaimed as the most modern and biggest dedicated chess club in the world when it was inaugurated on May 2, 1999. The building is designed in the shape of a rook, a piece in the game of chess. Some of the most notable members of the club include Saeed Ahmed Saeed, the UAE's first world champion in chess and first international master, and Taleb Moussa, the UAE's first chess grandmaster. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance, is the honorary president of the Club. Salem Abdulrahman Mohamed Saleh (born 4 January 1993) is an Emirati chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 2009. Saleh competed in the FIDE World Cup in 2011, 2013 and 2015. Biography Born in Sharjah, Saleh won three titles at the Asian Youth Chess Championships: under 14 in 2007, under 16 in 2008, and under 18 in 2009.
