Emily Spurrell
Emily Elizabeth Spurrell (born 1 November 1987) is a British Labour Party politician who was elected as the Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) in May 2021. She was previously a Liverpool City councillor for Mossley Hill and the deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Merseyside. Liverpool City Council At the 2012 Liverpool City Council election Spurrell contested the Mossley Hill ward in south Liverpool, comfortably taking the seat from the Liberal Democrats with 51.97% of the vote. She was re-elected to represent the Mossley Hill ward in 2016 and continued to do so until the delayed May 2021 elections which she did not recontest. In 2014 she was appointed as a Mayoral Lead for Community Safety before being appointed as the Cabinet Member for Community and Safer Neighbourhoods until 2017. The Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner is the police and crime commissioner, an elected official tasked with setting out the way crime is tackled by Merseyside Police in the English County of Merseyside. The post was created in November 2012, following an election held on 15 November 2012, and replaced the Merseyside Police Authority. The Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region is a combined authority mayor or 'metro mayor', who chairs the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. The first, and current, officeholder is Steve Rotheram, who was elected to the post in May 2017. The office was created under the Cities and Local Government Devolution Act 2016 which allowed for the creation of 'Metro mayors' to lead combined authorities in England. Powers and responsibilities The Metro Mayor handles a £30 million a year budget, ear-marked for 30 years from 2017 as well as being in control of a consolidated transport budget, coordinating economic development in the region, the adult skills budget and strategic planning for land and other roles. Elections of police and crime commissioners in England and Wales were held on 6 May 2021, on the same day as the Senedd election in Wales and the local elections in England. Oliver James Martins (born 17 December 1969 in Cambridge) is a British politician. He served as the Labour and Co-operative Bedfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner from 2012 to 2016.
