Emilio Álvarez Icaza Longoria (born 31 March 1965) is a Mexican human rights ombudsman and activist serving as a senator in the LXIV Legislature of the Mexican Congress from Mexico City. He previously served as the president of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights. Life and political career Álvarez Icaza was born on 31 March 1965 in Mexico City, Mexico. Emilio Á, lvarez Lejarza (25 October 1884 – 15 October 1969) was a Nicaraguan government official and jurist. Biography In 1884, Emilio Álvarez Lejarza was born on 25 October in Granada, Nicaragua Central America. In 1904 (age 20), Álvarez Lejarza received a bachelor's degree from the Instituto Nacional de Oriente of Granada. While working towards his degree, he taught courses in mathematics and grammar at the same institute. He went on to postgraduate study of law and in 1917 (age 33), he obtained the degree of Doctor en Derecho from the Universidad de Oriente. He returned to law practice in Nicaragua. Subsequently, he was appointed a district judge and later became the youngest justice of the Supreme Court of Nicaragua. Emilio Álvarez Montalván (31 July 1919 – 2 July 2014) was a Nicaraguan ophthalmologist and a Foreign Minister of the Republic of Nicaragua. Biography Emilio Álvarez Montalván was born in Managua, Nicaragua. In 1946, he received a Doctorate in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Chile, School of Medicine, graduating cum laude. He later studied ophthalmology at the Instituto de Oftalmología, Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1949. His post-graduate studies included work at the National Center for Ophthalmology in Paris, the Institute of Ophthalmology in London, and, lastly, at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary in New York City.
