Emilia Cundari
Emilia Cundari (September 7, 1930 – January 6, 2005) was a soprano opera singer who was born in Detroit, Michigan, and raised in Windsor, Ontario. She performed with the Metropolitan Opera in New York City and La Scala in Milan, Italy, prior to retiring from performing to raise a family. Early life and education Cundari was born in 1930 in Detroit, Michigan, to Frank and Ambrosina Cundari. Her father co-owned and operated Mario's Restaurant in Windsor, Ontario, where she attended Dougall Avenue School in addition to taking classes at the Ursuline School of Music. She later attended St. Mary's Academy where here vocal talent was apparent to teachers early on. The school, operated by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, began offering music training in 1864. Cundari went on to continue her studies at Marygrove College in Detroit, graduating with a bachelor of music. Nadine Deleury
Nadine Deleury is a cellist who was born in northern France. A student of André Navarra, she studied music at the Paris Conservatory. When in Brazil, she met Aldo Parisot during her participation in a cello master class, and she accepted his invitation to study under his direction at Yale University, where she received her master's degree. Deleury took up residence in Metropolitan Detroit in 1983, and ascended to principal cellist with the orchestra of the Michigan Opera Theatre. She continues teaching music, a member of the faculty at Oakland University, and she shares the role of co-artistic director oChamber Music at the Scarab Clubwith Velda Kelly. Deleury initiated a chamber opera project called ''Pat & Emilia'', about Pat Sturn, a prominent photographer, and Emilia Cundari, opera soprano who eventually performed with the Metropolitan Opera. Pat Sturn
Pat Sturn (October 1910 – March 15, 2011) was a Romanian-born Canadian portrait photographer. Life Sturn came to Windsor, Ontario during the early 1930s. She worked with photographer Will Browne and took over his studio in 1947. Sturn retired in 1981. She died at the age of 100 at the Metropolitan campus of the Windsor Regional Hospital. Sturn donated most of her estate to support arts programs at the University of Windsor. The life of Sturn and opera singer Emilia Cundari are portrayed in the chamber opera ''Pat & Emilia''.
