Emilia Bernal
Emilia Bernal Agüero (Nuevitas, 8 May 1882 – 1964) was a Cuban poet, who also cultivated other genres such as essay, translation and the autobiographical novel. Along with several other middle-class, educated women writer contemporaries -Lydia Cabrera, Teresa Casuso Morín, Rita Geada, Ana Maria Simo, and Hilda Perera Soto- Bernal left Cuba after the 1959 Revolution. Biography Emilia Bernal Aguero was born and raised in Nuevitas, Camagüey Province), where her mother was a teacher. Following the Cuban War of Independence of 1895, the family emigrated briefly to Hispaniola, but soon returned to Cuba, settling in Havana. There, she began to make herself known by writing for various newspapers. She spent most of her life abroad, traveling throughout America and Europe. Nuevitas
Nuevitas is a municipality and port town in the Camagüey Province of Cuba. The large bay was sighted by Christopher Columbus in 1492. History Founded in 1775, the city was moved to its present site in 1828. Before the 1977 national municipal reform, Nuevitas was divided into the barrios of Primero, Segundo, Tercero, Alvaro Reinoso, Lugareño, Redención, San Miguel and Senado. Geography Nuevitas is located on the Guincho peninsula on the north coast, and borders with the municipalities of Guáimaro, Minas, Manatí (in Las Tunas Province) and Morón (in Ciego de Ávila Province). The municipality includes the villages of Camalote, Pastelillo, Playa Santa Lucía, San Agustín, San Miguel de Bagá and Santa Rita. Majorca
Mallorca, or Majorca, is the largest island in the Balearic Islands, which are part of Spain and located in the Mediterranean. Llorenç Villalonga i Pons (Palma de Mallorca, March 1, 1897 – January 27, 1980) was a Balearic writer and psychiatrist. While he progressed in his medicine studies, Villalonga traveled to France, Barcelona and Murcia. He gained experience in psychiatry during his stay in France.
