Emerald Soup
''Emerald Soup'' was a 1963 British children's science fiction television series. Consisting of seven 25-minute episodes produced by ABC Weekend TV for the ITV network, the series was aired weekly from Saturday 9 November to Saturday 21 December 1963. Each episode except the last one ended with a scene to be resolved the following week via a quote from William Shakespeare. The last episode ended with the discovery of a gem (an emerald?). Norman Bogner acted as the Script Editor. The series conflicted in part with the initial episodes of the BBC series '' Doctor Who'', also broadcast on Saturdays, which started on 23 November 1963. Synopsis The series was set in a small rural community, where a group of local children discovers, constructed in the vicinity, a laboratory that is conducting secret radiation tests. John David Blake Butler (22 October 1924 – 15 April 1981) was an English actor best known for his role as the lecherous chief librarian Mr. Wainwright during the first and third series of ''Last of the Summer Wine'' in 1973 and 1976 respectively. Annette Andre (born 24 June 1939) is an Australian actress best known for her work on British television throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Early life and early career The daughter of an upholsterer, Annette Andre was born in Drummoyne, Australia, as Annette Christine Andreallo. She was brought up in Sydney and educated at Brigidine College, Sydney. She began work as a ballet dancer at the age of 4 at an academy linked to the Australian Ballet. At 15, she decided to stop ballet and pursue acting because she realised that she was not yet 16, the legal age to work in acting.
