Emerald Hill (horse)
Emerald Hill was a Brazilian thoroughbred racehorse best known for winning the São Paulo Filly Triple Crown while undefeated and compiling a seven race long Group 1 win streak. Background Emerald Hill was bred by Roberto and Nelson Seabra's Haras Guanabara. During her racing career, Emerald Hill was owned by Matias Machline through his Haras Rosa do Sul. Emerald Hill's sire, Locris, was bred in France, where he won six races, including the Group 2 Prix Jean Prat and Group 3 Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte. He was imported to stand stud in Brazil and had produced several stakes winners prior to Emerald Hill. Embuia, Emerald Hill's dam, was a winner over 1200-meters at Hipódromo Cidade Jardim. Emerald Hill was her sixth foal. None of her other offspring had noteworthy racing careers, and Embuia died March 2,1977. Locris (; el, label=Modern Greek, Λοκρίδα, Lokrída; grc, Λοκρίς, Lokrís) was a region of ancient Greece, the homeland of the Locrians, made up of three distinct districts. Prix Jean Prat
The Prix Jean Prat is a Group 1 flat horse race in France open to three-year-old thoroughbred colts and fillies. It is run at Deauville over a distance of 1,400 metres (about 7 furlongs), and it is scheduled to take place each year in early July. History The event was established in 1858. It was originally the opening leg of a two-part series called the Prix Biennal. The second leg, for horses aged four or older, was first run in 1859. Both races were staged at Longchamp. The three-year-olds' division of the Prix Biennal was run over 2,000 metres. For a period it was held in April, and it served as a trial for the Prix du Jockey Club. Emerson was an undefeated Brazilian racehorse best known for winning three Derbies. Background Emerson was bred by the brothers Roberto and Nelson Seabra at their Haras Guanabara in Brazil. Emerson's sire, Coaraze, had won multiple important races in his native France, including the Prix du Jockey Club, Prix Morny, and Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, before becoming a very important sire in Brazil. Emerson was out of the mare Empeñosa, who was an excellent racehorse from Argentina, where she won the Gran Premio Polla de Potrancas and Gran Premio Selección before being purchased by the Seabra brothers for 44,000 pesos.
