Romanian (obsolete spellings: Rumanian or Roumanian; autonym: ''limba română'' , or ''românește'', ) is the official and main language of Romania and the Republic of Moldova. Emanoil Bacaloglu
Emanoil Bacaloglu (; – 30 August 1891) was a Wallachian and Romanian mathematician, physicist and chemist. Born in Bucharest and of Greek origin, he studied physics and mathematics in Paris and Leipzig, later becoming a professor at the University of Bucharest and, in 1879, a member of the Romanian Academy. Considered to be the founder of many scientific and technological fields in Romania (and aiding in the creation of the Romanian Athenaeum), Bacaloglu was also an accomplished scientist. He helped create Romanian-language terminology in his fields and was one of the principal founders of the Society of Physical Sciences in 1890. He was also a participant in the 1848 Wallachian revolution. He is known for the "Bacaloglu pseudosphere". This is a surface of revolution for which the "Bacaloglu curvature" is constant. Emanoil Bârzotescu
Emanoil Bârzotescu (20 October 1888 – 3 July 1968) was a Romanian major general during World War II. Bârzotescu was born in Micești village, in what was then Muscel County (now Argeș County), in southern central Romania. As a young officer he served in the Second Balkan War (1913) and in World War I (1916–1918). He served as General Officer Commanding of the 1st Division from 1 January 1940 to 1942, retiring thereafter. In February 1945 he was first recalled, then put into reserve, and finally served as General Officer Commanding the 6th Corps Area. He was put in reserve again on August 21, 1946, and re-retired on August 9, 1947. Bârzotescu was arrested in April 1946 in Sibiu and was investigated by the Ministry of Interior authorities in the fall of 1947, in the trial of Iuliu Maniu. Emanoil Bucuța
Emanoil Bucuța (born Emanoil Popescu; June 27, 1887 – October 7, 1946) was a Romanian prose writer and poet. Born in Bolintin-Deal, Giurgiu County, his parents were Ioniță Popescu, a butler, and his wife Rebeca-Elena (''née'' Bucuța). Moving to Bucharest, he graduated from Saint Sava High School in 1907, followed by a degree in Germanistics from the University of Bucharest in 1911. He made his prose publishing debut in 1903, in ''Universul ilustrat''. He worked on a doctorate at the University of Berlin in 1912 and 1913, but quit due to lack of funds. While there, he kept an intimate diary called ''Mozaic''. After 1918, he became an active promoter of cultural life in interwar Romania. He was a director at the Labor Ministry in 1922, at the Cultural Foundation in 1925 and at the Schools Department from 1931 to 1944. Emanoil Catelli (born 25 January 1883, Zgărdeşti, Russian Empire; died 18 February 1943, Sviyazhsk, Republic of Tatarstan, USSR) was a Moldavian politician. Biography Emanoil Catelli was born on 25 January 1883 into a peasant's family from the village of Zgărdeşti, Bălți County. He was the second child of twelve in the family of Grigore and Anastasia Catelli (his siblings included Vasile, Ioan, Maria, Ecaterina, Melania, Leonida). From 1891 to 1895, he studied at the primary school. Three years later he was admitted to the Lower Agricultural School in Cucuruzeni, and graduated it in 1901. By 1903, Emanoil Catelli worked as a mechanic for agricultural machinery. In September 1903, he was enrolled in the Tsarist army as a second-class military. Manolache Costache Epureanu (1823–1880) was twice the Prime Minister of Romania both as a representative of the Conservative Party and of the National Liberal Party, more specifically for the first time in 1870 (20 April–14 December) and for the second time in 1876 (6 May–5 August). Emanuil Gojdu ( Hungarian: ''Gozsdu Emánuel'', mostly referred as ''Gozsdu Manó''; 9 February 1802, Nagyvárad, Hungary (now Oradea, Romania)—3 February 1870, Pest-Buda, Hungary) was a Romanian lawyer in the Kingdom of Hungary and patriot. Emanuil Gojdu was born to an Aromanian family that originated in Moscopole. He attended high school in his native town. After completing the high school studies, he studied law at the Academy of Law in Oradea (Nagyvárad, 1820-1821), then in Pressburg (1821-1822) and Budapest (1822-1824), becoming both a lawyer and a politician in 1824. He was a supporter of the rights of the Romanians in the Kingdom of Hungary and Transylvania. Emanoil Ionescu
Emanoil Ionescu (17 March 1887 – 14 June 1949) was a Romanian General during World War II and commander of the Royal Romanian Air Force's ''Corpul I Aerian''. Biography He was born in 1887 in Tămpeni, now Movileni, Olt County. After attending the Military School for Officers, he graduated with the rank of second lieutenant in 1911. During World War I he served in the 43rd Infantry Regiment. He enrolled as a volunteer at the Aviation School in Botoșani and obtained his pilot's license on July 11, 1918, after which he was assigned to the 4th Aviation Group. In the spring of 1919, when the Hungarian communist army attacked Romania, lieutenant Ionescu asked to be assigned to the 5th Aviation Group in Sibiu, an air subunit made available to General Gheorghe Mărdărescu, commander of the Romanian forces in Transylvania during the Hungarian–Romanian War. Emanoil Porumbaru (1845 – 11 October 1921) was a Romanian politician who served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania from 4 January 1914 until 7 December 1916 under the reign of Romanian kings Carol I and Ferdinand, and as President of the Senate of Romania from 9 December 1916 until 25 April 1918.
