Elysé Ratsiraka
Elysé Ratsiraka is a Malagasy politician and a medical practitioner. He was the Minister of Energy in the government Vital after the 2009 Coup d'Etat. He is the Vice-President of the MAPAR party. He was the brother of former Malagasy President Didier Ratsiraka. In 2015 he was elected Mayor of Toamasina Toamasina (), meaning "like salt" or "salty", unofficially and in French Tamatave, is the capital of the Atsinanana region on the east coast of Madagascar on the Indian Ocean. Brigadier General Albert Camille Vital (born 18 July 1952) is a Malagasy Army officer, politician and civil engineer who was Prime Minister of Madagascar from 2009 to 2011. He is the president of the Parti Hiaraka Isika. Life and career Trained in the Soviet Union, Vital was Chief of the Technical Office of the State Forces Staff Development (1987–1991), and then appointed corps commander of the first regiment of the Military Region No. 5 Toliara (1998–2001) before training at the Ecole Supérieure de Guerre in Paris in 2001–2002. 2009 Malagasy Political Crisis
The 2009 Malagasy political crisis began on 26 January 2009 with the political opposition movement led by Antananarivo mayor Andry Rajoelina, which sought to oust President Marc Ravalomanana from the presidency. The crisis reached its climax in the 2009 Malagasy coup d'état when Andry Rajoelina was declared the president of the High Transitional Authority of Madagascar on 21 March 2009, five days after Ravalomanana transferred his power to a military council and fled to South Africa. The international community immediately condemned the leader and his ascension as unconstitutional, characterising the move as a coup. Didier Ratsiraka
Didier Ignace Ratsiraka (; 4 November 1936 – 28 March 2021) was a Malagasy people, Malagasy politician and Madagascar Navy, naval officer who was President of Madagascar from 1975 to 1993 and from 1997 to 2002. At the time of his death, he was the longest-serving President of Madagascar. He was first appointed president in 1975 by the military leadership, he was then reelected twice in 1982 and 1989. While he lost to Albert Zafy in 1992, Ratsiraka returned to office after winning the 1997 election. After the 2001 election, he and his opponent Marc Ravalomanana engaged in a lengthy standoff after the latter refused to participate in a runoff election; Ratsiraka eventually stepped down. Toamasina (), meaning "like salt" or "salty", unofficially and in French Tamatave, is the capital of the Atsinanana region on the east coast of Madagascar on the Indian Ocean.
