Elwick, County Durham
Elwick is a village and civil parish in the borough of Hartlepool and the ceremonial county of County Durham, in England. It is situated near the A19 road to the west of Hartlepool. Hartlepool Borough Council governs Elwick. As Elwick is only a small parish it is not able to run itself as its own district. It does have a Parish Council. Elwick was known as a township until 1866, but then was changed to a civil parish status. History, population and governance Mortality decline in the late 19th century was mainly due to the reduction of a very high infant mortality rates. But during the 20th and 21st centuries a decline in fertility rates and an improved life expectancy has changed the age structure of the population. Borough Of Hartlepool
The Borough of Hartlepool is a unitary authority area in ceremonial County Durham, England. The borough's largest town is Hartlepool. It borders the County Durham district as well as the boroughs of Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees. The local authority is Hartlepool Borough Council, a member of the Tees Valley Combined Authority. In 2003 it had a resident population of 90,161, increasing to 92,028 at the 2011 Census. It is made up of 17 council wards and the Hartlepool constituency has been coterminous with the council area since the 1983 parliamentary redistribution. Ferdinand Ashmall
Ferdinand Ashmall (9 January 1695 – 2 February 1798) was an English centenarian and Catholic priest for the Catholic Church in England and Wales. Biography He was born on 9 January 1695 in Elwick, County Durham to Thomas Ashmall and Mary Addison. He was admitted to Lisbon College on 9 August 1711, at age 15, to prepare for the priesthood. He was ordained on 18 February 1720 as a Roman Catholic priest in Portugal. He returned to England in 1723 where he became the chaplain to Mary Salvin at Elvet, County Durham until her death in 1727. He then moved back to his family estate in Amerston. He later moved to New House, County Durham where he remained as the priest until his death. Sneaker Pimps
Sneaker Pimps are an English electronic music band, formed in Hartlepool in 1994. They are best known for their debut album, ''Becoming X'' (1996), and its singles " 6 Underground" and "Spin Spin Sugar". The band takes its name from an article the Beastie Boys published in their ''Grand Royal'' magazine about a man they hired to track down classic sneakers. The band was founded by electronic musician Liam Howe and guitarist Chris Corner. They later recruited Kelli Ali (then known as Kelli Dayton) as lead singer, plus guitarist Joe Wilson and drummer Dave Westlake as backup musicians. After ''Becoming X'', the band decided to replace Ali with Corner on vocals. Wilson and Westlake departed in 2002. In 2016 Howe and Corner revived the group after a lengthy hiatus. Hartlepool is a railway station on the Durham Coast Line, which runs between Newcastle and Middlesbrough via Hartlepool. Billingham is a railway station on the Durham Coast Line, which runs between Newcastle and Middlesbrough via Hartlepool. The station, situated north-west of Middlesbrough, serves the town of Billingham, Borough of Stockton-on-Tees in County Durham, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains. History The station is a modern-style halt on the line and was opened on Monday 7 November 1966 to replace the town's original grander station located further west towards Norton; this closed the previous day and was subsequently demolished in the early 1970s. RAF Middleton St George was a Royal Air Force (RAF) and Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) RAF Bomber Command, Bomber Command station during World War II. Teesside International Airport
Teesside International Airport , previously Durham Tees Valley Airport, is an international airport located between Darlington and Stockton-on-Tees, Northern England. It is about south-west of Middlesbrough. The airport serves the North East, primarily Teesside, County Durham and North Yorkshire.
